I am looking into getting a ute as I have moved to a small town and it would be easier then having to pay for delivery.
The price of the ute would depend on the trade in on my 03 VY II Calais.
What were the decent years for good utes seeing that I would be looking at one with highish k's on it
All suggestions welcolme
thanks

For a VY calais your probably looking at around $13-$16k I'd recommend a VU Storm or a VU ute. Probably pick a good one up for no more than $15 at max!
what kind of K's would I be best to look at

Thanks for that but I was hoping on a dealer car not private
I need to sell mine to get it so it will need to be something close to my trade in unless you know of someone wanting to buy a VYII calais

I would advertise your car mate, dealers only bend you over on trade ins.
Thats what I was thinking of doing
What price would I be looking at for private and trade -in

What models / years had the 3 seats in them

Thanks for the idea but it is more as a road ute.
I am after a ute so that I can throw stuff in the back instead of have to get people to deliver all the time. Plus delivery price is going up as I live 40k's from the next bigger town living in a small (2000pople) country town.
Reason for wanting the 3rd seat is we have 1 child and most likley having a 2nd so they can both fit in
I am after something that will give me a straight swap as we have just brought an 06 SVZ wagon

What kind of K's are too much for a ute

same for any other commodore...depends on your preference mate.
Your not going to get very specific or helpful information with such vague questions that you have been asking. You have a VY Calais, probably get no more than $16k for it, and I emphasise, if your lucky....Trade in will be a bad idea for you in my opinion, as they give you a rip off price as they have to repair/clean up the car to sell at a competitive price and then make profit on it, so your not going to get the full value of the car, thus less money for your ute. So I would suggest you sell privately.
Now about the ute.
You can spend more and get a ute with less k's, though it will be more money out of pocket. As far as I'm aware, there are very few utes with 3 seats (at least commodores) in the more recent models (as far as I'm aware) so that will be a downside if your going to have more kids in the car. If your planning on having a few kids then I would suggest getting a crewman, as it has a dual cab, yet you can still have the full use of the tray.
As far as too many k's are concerned, that is for you to decide. People can sit here and say 200,000 is too many, or 130,000 is too many. It depends on what you are prepared to take on with the purchase of a used car. For example, are you prepared to get a car that you know you are going to have to replace parts soon? or you could get a car with more k's on it which you know has had all those major repairs done.
Another example, when I was buying my car I had two choices, both VS Spacks.
First one:
Second one
- $5000
- 203,500 k's
- New Transmission
- New Harmonic balancer
- etc
The point of ^^^^ all that being, that a car with less k's is not always a good thing, depending on what you want in a car. There is obviously alot more to buying a used car, or in this case a ute than just deciding on a model. You have to make you preferences and prepare yourself for what you are taking on, and what you are prepared to do to the car.
- $6500
- 165,000 k's
- Nothing replaced, all old parts
Hope that makes sense.
