Default Fuel Pump Problem (I think)??

I drove 500km today, fueled up once along the way. Got home and i left the ute running while i took something out of the back, then the ute just suddenly stopped. I thought that was strange because it has never done that before, i went to turn it back on and when i turned the key the fuel pump usually makes a quiet buzzing sound but this time it was loud buzzing and it did'nt sound too good at all. The ute started coughing and spluttering and it just could'nt idle, it just kept stalling, thats when strong petrol fumes started filling the cab. There was no petrol leaking because i checked, but these fumes were bad, it sort of seemed like the ute was flooded, but how and why??. I left it turned off and went and had a drink, came back 15 minutes later and it started straight away and ran like a beauty. My question is, what could have caused this? It was a very hot day and i only stopped once along the way, would heat have caused this?

Any info would be great. Thanks!

Mine does the exact same.. But idles very rough once started.. With the fuel smell strong..but no leaks.

It's most likely your Fuel Pump has shit itself or is very close to it

Found a few little holes in the fuel line, i think it was sucking air, i patched them up and it seems to be running a lot better. I think the fuel pump is fine.

Well, turns out the fuel pump is'nt fine. The Holden bloke said the pump is stuffed because the ute has been cutting out while i have been driving along, its dangerous on the highway, it only happens after i have been driving for 2 hours non stop, he said when the pump gets hot it just cuts out. I leave it to cool down for 5 minutes and its fine. So i have ordered a new pump, and this time it should fix it, hopefully!! The fuel smell and moaning has continued, so i hope these are all symptoms of a rooted fuel pump. If this does'nt fix it then im buggered whats wrong with it!
