hey guys, before i start, i had a think and thought this was teh place area for my question (although i usually get this wrong, cos i for some reason over look certain boards). and i also tried the search option, i had trouble wording the search correctly tho.
so here it is.
i am probably going to be getting an auto ute, to tell you the truth its a ford (its just there at the right time for the right place, and im already a member here, so sorry if its not allowed.). now its a ba 4 speed auto, which is a bummer, but i do have access to a good condition lsd diff from a manual xr6.
i am interested in this for the 3.45 ratio ( i think) which will improve the long 1st gear in the stock diff. i question is: what is the deal with putting the manual diff in there (i know its not a "manual" diff) as in its for a 6 speed gear box as apposed to my 4 speed, how will affect the ratios and what not? i am just worried about the 6 speed vs the 4 speed its going into.
recap.
have a 4 speed auto
can get a diff from a 6/5 speed manual with a shorter ratio
is there going to be a problem with the different amount of gears?
what will be the outcome of this swap? as in, would it act like im missing a gear or 2 and sit at 4k rpm (being silly) at 100?
?
i thought that the 6spd fprds copped the dana diffs where as the 5 spd's (pre ba) were borgies so i doubt you can get the gears in the housing but if the housing fits just whack the whole thing in.
btw you should ask this on aus ford forums
