Holden is running a new commercial on TV advertising the new SIDI engines and stating that the car can run 900km on a full tank.
The interesting thing about that ad is the first car shown - a Commodore in that black and white patchwork camouflage used for concealing new models. The car only appears very briefly with two people standing in front of it.
Now, that camo was used for the VE, but as the VE is now over 3 years old, I doubt that the car is the ad is an old prototype VE. So that begs the question - is it a prototype of the next model? I've tried to spot differences but the car appears too briefly and the camo does a good job of hiding details.
Anybody else seen the ad and have similar ideas?
The other point to consider is that it is filmed from the back of the car. Because of the need to change sheet metal to make much difference to the rear end, they would probably only change lights and trim, which can be easily covered by fitting old model parts (ie VE). If they showed the front, where changes would be more extensive, there might be a bit more to see.
I know it's only guesswork, but if you are showing off your latest engineering changes, why would you include film of the car before it was released over three years ago? I don't think you would, and I reckon the camo'd car is a teaser shown well in advance of the first VE facelift.
the black and white patchwork was also used for the vt
Chev badges are an instant fail
Yep - I bet it's a sniff of the VF.....

Don't think so - as I said above, why include a clip that is at least three or four years old when advertising your latest updates? That makes no sense at all. It has to be a teaser for the next update, which will include exterior design changes. It also suggests that Holden have updated the VE with the new engines, but in keeping with their current advertising theme of constant update and refinement, more is on the way and here's a little snippet to keep your interest.
Maybe consider that holden dont even fully know what the next model is going to come out with so I wouldnt over analyse it too much
How do you work that out? Holden would have the design of the facelift pretty well locked in by now as it's due out late next year.
As I said, (twice already), why would you include a clip of a camo'd car in a new car ad, if it wasn't a lead-in to the next model? Putting in a two second clip of a VE prototype, which would have to be at least four years old, makes no sense at all.
Holden's current advertising theme is "constant improvement", rather than new faces every two years or so, but even the VE has to get a fresh face soon. My money's on a VE2/VF prototype.
the reason they would use an old clip is that the shape of the new line of cars is no different at all, so why go to the effort of filming something new if you have a tape lying around already. Its in camo so it doesnt reveal a possible hero colour (thats the proper name for it isnt it?). There'd be no point. Its not as if the whole ad is based on that two secs.. my thoughts anyway
its a cow.
