Its some stupid thing holden have adopted from other makes (Subaru etc).

I'm yet to see a logical reason for it, all it does is make peopel think they are buying a '2010' model when in fact there buying a 2009 MY10 car...

I'd pretty much say the same thing as Stealthy, just a flashy thing to make people go " Oh well now that you've pointed out its a "MY10" i'll take it. Much better than that other thing your trying to sell me ( even though there the same car)"

That's definitely what the "MY" means. With Holden these days, instead of two yearly facelifts, they are tending to keep the same basic appearance of each model much longer, but altering the specifications substantially as time goes by.

If you compared a MY07 VE to a MY10 VE, you would find that the specifications had changed substantially. With each "MY", the motor trade is able to track the relative age and specification of the particular car, whereas in the past, you would have had to specifiy that your VZ was a 2004, 5 or 6 model, and there would even have been differences between an early and a late 2005 model, for example.

I guess it makes things simpler for the factory, dealers, spare parts departments and the used car trade to differentiate between the versions of the same basic model over the life of that model.

It would have made more sense if they used MY1, 2, 3 etc, not a number that is close to or the year before the current year...

    i think its logical.

year built is still most important of course, but model year is also important because of updates.

ie There is a difference in value between all 09 built cars... because you got MY09 MY09.5 and MY10. They all may have a build date of 2009, but are quite different.

If they did that to the VE, they'd be up to Series 6 or 7 by now. This model seems to have had so many changes and upgrades, it would have been crazy to apply the "Series" designations to it.

And in all honesty, the factory would be more concerned with what it does to make its own life easier, any confusion the system causes to the customer would be inconsequential.

The model year changes around September each year, which has been the practice with GM in the States for many years.

I don't have a VE, so I don't know what info appears on the plate, but as members of the forum know they have an MY09/9.5 etc, I assume that is what appears on the plate these days?

I'm not sure I see your point, but I imagine keeping the Series idea would make it a bit difficult to market and sell the car as it aged.

Who would want to buy a new "Series 7", when previous models only went to Series 2 generally before they were replaced with the next model? Series 7 tells you it's an old model that has had a lot of updates - not that it's a new car.

I suspect it has something to do with marketing as well as factory convenience. It might just be Holden falling into line with GM standard practice, too.

Like i mentioned before, other models have been doing this for years, so its nothing new.

And i think you just proved my point with 'who would want to buy a new series 7', they'd much rather buy a MY10 model in 2009, and then sell it for more when they upgrade, to unsuspecting buyer who thinks its a 2010 model

Fine. You guys believe in your conspiracy theories all you like. Holden will continue to sell the cars new and buyers will continue to buy them used and won't give a rat's a*** how the company designates them.

I don't remember saying people would stop buying them because of this new designation.....Are you even in this thread?
I just said its a stupid way of doing things. No different to the millions of other opinions on things manufactures do all over the world.

Jesus Stealthy, it's your opinion and your entitled to it, just as I am to mine. As usual, we don't agree. Leave it at that.

And of course I'm in this thread - I'm sure others are quite capable of judging for themselves, even if you can't.

Don't bother replying - I know how you ALWAYS have to get the last word in, and I'm done with this thread. Go and argue with your dog.

i thought it was just cos they build the cars year long, every single day, and make changes...it would be hard for them to stop building the series 1 VE until new years, then suddenly release the series 2 the first day of january. i believe they design the upgrades in mid 09 for release around 10, if stock sells to quickly and they need to start delivering the '10' model early, technically its a 09 built car, but it was made for 10...so thats why there is my10 in 2009.

    so i think anyway...
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.
    PM with any info.
