Okay im haveing a dumb moment and am seeing it more and more, for example MY09 VE SS wtf does my09 mean? i have even seen it on older cars on carsales and carpoint?
im gonna guess and say Model Year 2009?
Its some stupid thing holden have adopted from other makes (Subaru etc).
I'm yet to see a logical reason for it, all it does is make peopel think they are buying a '2010' model when in fact there buying a 2009 MY10 car...

That's definitely what the "MY" means. With Holden these days, instead of two yearly facelifts, they are tending to keep the same basic appearance of each model much longer, but altering the specifications substantially as time goes by.
If you compared a MY07 VE to a MY10 VE, you would find that the specifications had changed substantially. With each "MY", the motor trade is able to track the relative age and specification of the particular car, whereas in the past, you would have had to specifiy that your VZ was a 2004, 5 or 6 model, and there would even have been differences between an early and a late 2005 model, for example.
I guess it makes things simpler for the factory, dealers, spare parts departments and the used car trade to differentiate between the versions of the same basic model over the life of that model.
It would have made more sense if they used MY1, 2, 3 etc, not a number that is close to or the year before the current year...

ie There is a difference in value between all 09 built cars... because you got MY09 MY09.5 and MY10. They all may have a build date of 2009, but are quite different.

And in all honesty, the factory would be more concerned with what it does to make its own life easier, any confusion the system causes to the customer would be inconsequential.
The model year changes around September each year, which has been the practice with GM in the States for many years.

Who would want to buy a new "Series 7", when previous models only went to Series 2 generally before they were replaced with the next model? Series 7 tells you it's an old model that has had a lot of updates - not that it's a new car.
I suspect it has something to do with marketing as well as factory convenience. It might just be Holden falling into line with GM standard practice, too.
Like i mentioned before, other models have been doing this for years, so its nothing new.
And i think you just proved my point with 'who would want to buy a new series 7', they'd much rather buy a MY10 model in 2009, and then sell it for more when they upgrade, to unsuspecting buyer who thinks its a 2010 model![]()

Fine. You guys believe in your conspiracy theories all you like. Holden will continue to sell the cars new and buyers will continue to buy them used and won't give a rat's a*** how the company designates them.

And of course I'm in this thread - I'm sure others are quite capable of judging for themselves, even if you can't.
Don't bother replying - I know how you ALWAYS have to get the last word in, and I'm done with this thread. Go and argue with your dog.
OK before this goes any further, thanks to BOTH of you guys' input. My question has pretty much been answered cheers![]()

so i think anyway...
