I went for my pink slip today but he wouldn't pass it because the back tyres were worn, even though they werent down to the indicators yet. So i said yeah no worries i'll chuck some 15's on the back i've got at home. He said i can't mix wheel sizes (front 17's). I'm pretty sure there's no law that says you can't. I didn't have a set of 15's with good rubber so in the end he got a pair of cheap tyres out of me.
Is he right in saying i can't mix sizes? I've even been pulled over for an RBT with stockies on the back and no issues.
It depends on how much of the tyre was left and how close it was to the indicator, i had to replace mine even though it was not on the indicator yet, as that means you have to replace them right this second.
I got away with the inside wall being chewed out :/
Must be requirement for wheels sizes for going through rego then when a RBT pulls you over. not sure, im never sure what is legal and illegal cause they keep changing!
It might depend on the tyre sizes. What size were the front 17's? If, for example, you were running 235/45's on the front, and wanted to fit 215/65's on the 15's, the car would not have been particularly safe. You have to remember that the pink slip is to confirm that your car was roadworthy and therefore safe, at the time of inspection, and the wrong tyre size combo could mean that it wasn't roadworthy, regardless of the condition of the tyres.
As far as I know, it is fine as long as each axel has the same size rims on it. But yeh, guess you can't argue with the inspector, he usually knows what hes talking about![]()
i passed rego with 19's on the front and 14's off a vn on the back no worries.
also in nsw. it all depends how picky they want to be.
I passed rego with a road worthy car.
