Bought a 95 vs commodore today. The guy had replaced the engine as he blew the first one, and he gave me the reciepts and stuff.
When I looked at the rego papers, I saw the vin and engine number are still the old one, not the one he replaced it with.
It was done by a mechanic, not a back yard job so its not dodgy.
My question is: what do you have to do or whatever for the registration papers when replacing an engine?
Does it need an engineers certificate? What should he have done?
I rang him tonight and he said just find out what I have to do and I'll do it.
Can anyone help with the right procedures?
cheers.

pretty sure you take it to the rta with all the paper and receipts and they will check the engine number to make sure its not stolen and they will change it
you can take it to an AUVIS station and have the number checked and then go to the RTA and it will be noted on their system...or you wait till the next inspection and the rego guy will note it on the report and the RTA will change it on their system...and as long as it isnt on the stolen register it will be fine...
thanks, so do I need a blue slip or inspection report, or just take receipts.
He only gave us rego papers, and receipt for engine.(as well as other receipts)
but NO INSPECTION REPORT FOR ENGINE.
have been googling it and some say i need a blue slip for engine change.
Others say just fill out form at RTA you dont need blue slip.
Anyone changed their engine and what did you have to do?? (its in NSW).
you have to change over into your name anyway so just take the receipts to the RTA and note it on the form you fill out and they will let you know if you need any inspection
if they say you do then it will be to an AUVIS station for an identity check not a blue slip
thanks.
Our problem is we live on a property 50kms out of town, and Im pretty annoyed the previous owner didnt do the proper paperwork and that it may cost me extra money.
Getting into town, all this mucking around when he should have done it, not me.
also, its probably going to cost me and take a whole day.
damm.
go here
RTA Home Page
click 'contact us'
and ask them if you need to have the identity check done prior to your going there
no worries, being sunday night and not being able to ring rta, getting info today might be easier.
am going to ring RTA this morning, what a hassle. thanks for all the information guys
all good. rang a blue slip mechanic and he did a change of records. cost $23
prolly why the last owner didnt do it lol...
i meant the $23...p**s poor i know but to him he was selling it and wasnt going to spend any more on it...i bought a car once and found out afterwards it was pensioner rego and i had to cough up the extra to transfer it...i always ask questions nowadays...
