Question K&N Air Filter. Worth Buying?

Looking for a cheap, effective way to give my VZ ute some more guts. Is a K&N air filter what I'm looking for? Does it really give a better note and grunt?

Not much on the note and guts but well worth it imo, can always just clean it never have to replace it, 3x the surface area of the standard filter and it filters out dust etc much much better.

It's a noticeable improvement in power but it won't change the note really. Maybe a little more induction noise

The filter won't change your note and certainly won't give exponential power gains and alot of 'noticeable' grunt.

What it will do is increase your airflow and give you improved induction which will help your engine breathe better. The K&N Panel filter is definately worth buying, although don't expect it alone to give massive amounts of power. You need to pair it with CAI, extractors etc...and the list goes on.

All in all, I definately reccommend buying the K&N.

They are specially effective when paired with a supercharger system.

Seriously though, yeah its worth getting one.

I'm getting alot of mixed responses, but I'm definately gunna get one for the hell of it. Saves buying a new one every service.

Also, under the P plate and high powered vehicles law, will a good air filter be considdered an engine mod?

i wouldnt bother with K&N filters the standard filters breath just as good, but id get a lukey filter they seem 2 breath better again and r washable so u dont need 2 buy crappy oil that will go into ur TB n dirty it up. and 4 $50-$60 u get better bang 4 ur buck.

I've had one for a couple of months and all i noticed with it was a better throttle response because i paired it with an OTR CAI. Beauty of them is that you can clean and reuse. It will pay for itself over time.

i wouldnt bother with a k&n..i had brought one for my old VR, and it had a CAI, very minimal gains if any.. and a few mechanics have told me that they are rubbish and the standard paper ones are fine...but ive also heard that LUKEY ones are pretty dam good

yeh go the lukey hi flow filter, i tried both the k&n and the lukey in the same car and imo the lukey was heaps better plus its a dry filter so you dont get all the oily gunk thru the intake, its also re-usable, and it costs about $30 cheaper than the k&n.

bursons sells them and if they dont have one in your local store then the next one should.

Minimal gains by itself but in both cases I have used one, throttle response feels a slight bit crisper. If you expect significant changes from it alone you will be disappointed but as part of a more comprehensive upgrade including exhaust and perhaps intake mods it all adds up.
