Hey guys me again...
This SS is driving me crazy, bloody V8's
Under load in 1st gear i get this creeking sort of sound which is pretty loud coming from what seems the rear end. Seems to be worse when it hits a bump while accelerating. It only makes the noise for a split second or as it hits a bump. Its not a constant noise when it happens.
I only have to give it 1/2 throttle in 1st for it to make the noise. It squats pretty hard.
I really dont know if its a suspension problem or a drivetrain problem.
To me if you can imagine like 2 flanges being bolted hard up against each other then they slip. But it could be like something rubbing.
Tyres dont scrub as i changed them to 15's for a test. Originally i thought it was the 19's scrubbing.
Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem.
Broken rear K frame. Jack it up, have a good look at the K frame for cracks. Very common on IRS Commodores, especially V8 manual ones.
Im pretty confident after looking for an hour theres no cracks in the K frame. Its funny because the sound it makes really fits the description.
check with a mirror the top side of the IRS frame on the first bend nearest to the diff center, normally drivers side goes first.
also check the big round bushes that mounts it to the car grab a big bar and lever on them see if they are gone
The noise has got alot worse now. Im pretty confident its coming from the front now.
When you accelerate harder than normal the front end lifts and makes a real scraping metallic sound (sort of like a bush or something rubbing up a thread) just fort a split second until the load comes off, the front end comes back down and it makes the same noise.
Any ideas? Engine mount maybe?
I put some load on the radius rod bushes and they seemed pretty loose but i can see how they would make the noise.
