    Default Ecotec or EFI 202?

    Hello again,

I am typing this letter seeking advice for my VK Calais. My Vk Calais is Currently Running at 202 EFI. For power and performance, would a Ecotec be better or a Worked injected 202?

And how many hp could I push out for $3000, already have both motors (What mods also)?

    Thanks,

V6 has more torque, also easier to find bolt on performace parts for V6 rather than the straight 6.

    also fuel enconomy FTW! lol

Honest opinions, For torque, should I go Buick or Ecotec?
Which is cheaper to build (maximizing hp and torque) and lasts?

202 vs. V6, V6 is more recent and has more parts readily available. Also, probably not as many headaches dropping the V6 in as opposed to building a 202.

If your going for a stock V6, the general consensus is that the Buick has a bit more torque of the line than the ecotec (whether or not that is true, I don't know), but (in my opinion) the ecotec has more bolt on's and more potential if your thinking after market bits and pieces.

the EFI 202 was a good engine in it's day, but it's very dated now. The engine management system is the old analogue L-Jetronic system which can't be 'tuned' with a simple memcal swap etc. If you plan on significant engine mods you'll really need to go for an aftermarket ECM, ignition system is old, parts hard to find.

The V6 is a bigger capacity engine, superior, upgradable engine management & ignition system and parts are readily available. Conversion isn't difficult either

Having said that, I would love to see someone spend some $$ on an EFI 202 (turbo would be awesome!). But bang for buck, go for the V6

I looked into this quite a bit before. Bang for buck, I'd also say the V6, I was looking at the ecotec, sure it is an anchor in the later models but the VK is alot lighter than then VS>. The Ecotec also made similar HP and torque to the VK 308/4, Personally i'd go for the Ecotec as it is a newer engine and there are more easy upgrades to it. If it was me i'd probably go for a V8 cause there is no need for an engineer's cert (i think) but its up to you.

You'd never make your engine bay look as neat as this with an eco (this is a VK)

Does anyone have any links to performance ecotec or buick engines?
If I can find a store outside of Australia, I will import.

Also, does anyone have any worked 3.8s for sale?

if you want torque and hp you might as well put in EFI 5ltr much better than a V6 and alot easier to get more power from
If its got Wheels or Boobs its gonna cost ya money

Drop in an Ecotec and work it. They have serious potential if modded.

    They do indeed.

But when you start looking at it costs alot.

Come Stroker Kit is $2600 (Worst Case Scenario)
    Cam (Come) $700
    Heads $2000 (Maybe including rockers)

And thats already $5300 and the build may still continue or buy a fully blown 202?

BTW, whats the cheapest power options for ecotecs?
(Anyone got a good build, they could share with me?)

If you are going to do a conversion, don't even bother with an N/A ECOTEC. Get yourself an L67 from the word go....You will pay a bit more for the engine at the start but you will be much better off in the long run. They have a lot more power potential and go fast parts are endless.
