what commodore diff is this... and is it worth using?

Me and my bro have this diff we believe is outta a vr v8...but not 100% its got 3.45 gears and an lsd

also were wondering if its strong enough and worth putting in a vh that will have between 300rw-400rw, we know it will need shortening if its a vr but whats the approx cost for that type of work also while i got ya's

Whatever it is, if that's rust on the teeth, it's junk. Putting big power through it will just stuff it even quicker.

nah its just surface rust in there, wipes straight off. its going to be taken to a diff specialist for a freshen up before it gets put under the car.

3.45 ratio isn't standard in a VR diff, but the previous owner may have done a swap.
VL 6cyl diffs come out with a 3.45 ratio, as did the VN Grp A.

Pull an axle out and count the number of splines. 28 spline means it's out of either a VL turbo, V8 or VN-VS. Wouldn't use anything less for the power you are seeking
