GDay,
I was wondering if anyone here would be kind enough to help me with a problem I'm having.
Earlier today I noticed a layer of old black grease accumulating around my VX commodore's cv shaft inner flanges (left and right cv shafts) . It's where the CV shafts bolt to the ABS gear thing at the diff. The grease appears to be coming from out of the mating surface itself.
The hex sockets do not appear to be loose after checking with an allen key, so I'm curious as to know how this grease got there. I was thinking maybe old moly grease from the inner joints themselves, but how could it come out if the flange is tight. I didn't think there was a seal at this mating surface either.
If it's any help the grease does appear old and is the consistency of dirt, not fresh grease. The boots are also completely spotless with no tears.
Any ideas as to what's going on???
Thanks
Must be a leak from one of the boots, might need to check again. The grease is dirty because the dirt sticks to it.
Are we there yet?
I just checked again and there is nothing wrong with the boots. They are totally spotless with no grease on them at all. Not even where they are clamped at each end.
