    Default A Lowering Question

I want to put some super low springs in my ute, im just wondering how many of you guys have just put in the new springs and left the stock shocks and struts how they are? Have you had any issues? I would get some new shocks but they are very expensive.
Can i just put in new springs without new shocks?

you can keep the stock shocks, but don't. If you are going to lower your car for christs sake do it properly, If you don't you run the risk of having a spring come out under the right circumstances with low springs and standard shocks.

On top of what is mentioned above, you will wear your shocks out much faster. Why do people always want to do their suspension half assed? This Q has been asked a fair bit lately. If you can't afford to lower your car properly then don't do it.

How much cheaper than Monroe Lowered's? I'm looking at getting a replacement set and they're $145 for either front or rear. X 2 for both.

Is that Monroe GT Gas, or GT Sport? To be the equivalent of a KYB you need to be talking about the GT Sport.

Ok, so is this all i need? Plus i suppose it would'nt be cheap to get them fitted, because i don't think i could do it. Also, how do i tell if my ute has IRS or Live Axle, whats the difference? Its a 2000 VS Ute and all the suspension is stock as far as i know. Can someone tell me what i have.

hey mate, everyone advises to replace the shocks however i cant see myself doin it any time soon as i am on apprentice wages lol. i fitted mine myself and only took 30 mins max! it is really simple, just jack the car up high enuff so the springs are lose enuff to wobble around n then just pull em out. chuck the new ones in and thats it. hmmmmmm good question, mines a 99 s pack n its a live axle, get under the car and look at your diff and suspension set up. if it looks like a T, its live axle and u r in luck and will not have to buy a camber kit :P

Yes that would probably do it. You might get hit up for new strut tops if you're still using the originals, they probably will have worn out.

Your ute is live axle. All VS utes are. wtf is IRS and do i have it?

because the rear springs have a chance of falling out, the fronts have no chance of doing so.

Ok fair enough, but i should still get new front shocks right? Or should i not worry about front shocks. There is almost $200 difference in getting the pack with front shocks compared to the pack without, thats why im asking. It almost seems to me that i only need new rear shocks, why would they sell a pack with rear shocks and no front shocks?

Do yourself a favour and get the front ones too. Taking out struts is annoying, and really better if you only have to do it once. The shortened shocks and struts have a shorter stroke that compensate for the difference in height. Because the regular struts don't have this, they will most likely ware out much faster. As for why they would sell a pack with only rears, ask them.

Just had a thought, what if i just went with lows instead of super lows. Lows only lower the vehicle 30-35mm compared to 50-60mm with super lows. Would i still need new shocks with lows?

the stock springs would have sagged a bi and are probably allready at the same height as lows. i think youll be wasting your money and be dissapointed. with the overall outcome.

Hey mate, i know the rear springs are easy to put in, but how about the front ones? Would'nt i need spring compressors?
