Hey guys, a friend of mine just got offered an above mentioned 1989 model hatchbackfor her first car on her p's. My question is (as I know nothing about turbos or mazda 626's) is: How difficult is it to remove the turbo? What's involved? Is it worth buying and stuffing around with? She can get the car for a few hundred bucks. Quick responses greatly appreciated, thank you.

Well. what were you going to use it for if you got it? Why do you want to remove the turbo? (I'm guessing power restrictions)
It would probably be a pain to revert to the non turbo setup.
I'd reckon it would be a lot of bother for a poor result. Chances are the motor is a lower compression job to cope with the turbo, so removing it would leave you with a non-turbo'd low output engine. Car's old and worth little - fine for a non p-plater but too much bother to convert.
The old standard engined Mazda's didn't have a lot of poke even with high compression. I had a 1989 Telstar once - basically the same car, and easily the worst car I ever owned. Wouldn't pull a sailor off your sister.
The car you're looking at could end up a dog to drive.
it wouldnt be that hard but you would have to get the extractors from a N/A model and the computer as well so the car wont try and over fuel but it will probably run like poo because of the lower compression in the engine.
Ok Calaber, thanks heaps mate, I'll talk her out of buying A head
ache!!!! Cheers
