Default question about leaners speed limit if driving in vic

cause im only on my L's, i cant go over 80km/h. (live in SA)
if i was driving in victoria, would i have to stick to 80km/h? or just go the normal speed limit over there? (because victorian L platers have no speed restrictions)

You follow the laws that are in your state. I.e. you hold an SA learners permit, so you obey all SA Learner restrictions on any public road around Australia. Same with P platers.

follows the laws of the state, applys for licensing and cars.

best way is to ring up vicroads.

doing 80kph on 110kph road is going to make a lot of drivers annoyed.
You're probably wondering where you are. I'll tell you where you might be. You might be in the room that you die in. This is your wake up call.

Follow the speed limit. There is no speed restrictions in Victoria (at least when I was on my L's, the laws have changed like 4 times in the last 3 years), but don't do 80 on country roads, or block up the right lanes on the Monash, because that will piss a lot of people off, including me, lol!

I think as was mentioned, just drive according to the rules of your licensed State, and perhaps pull over if you see a row of cars behind you on country roads.

I'm sorry, but theres no way i'd break the law and be guaranteed to lose my license just because your an aggressive driver.

To the op, you always follow the conditions on YOUR license. But you still have to adhere to the road rules of where your driving. So yes, you can only drive 80, even on the highway. This wont be a problem, because people who have a license should be capable of overtaking safely. If they can't, they should hand their license in.

Yeah, gotta stick to 80. Its like in ACT we have no speed restrictions but when NSW'lers come in here, they still have to do 80.

No, you wouldn't. I've been over this with VicRoads and Highway Patrol numerous times when I was a NSW p-plater, and was repeatedly told that no arbitrary speed restriction applied to me in Victoria whatsoever.

First paragraph states the SA Govt perspective.

Vic doesnt mention anything about it on their website.
    Vic Roads - Interstate Drivers

This makes it worse though.. stationg that :"Someone on a learner's permit cannot drive outside the State in which it was issued."

Don't understand how me telling him to avoid the right lane of the freeway if he has a speed limit on his L's means he'd lose his license and I'm an aggressive driver?
In Victoria, on any road with a speed limit of over 80 and two or more lanes, the right lane should only be used for overtaking.
    FYI. And thats a fact.
And if he's on the Great Ocean Road, good luck overtaking on that, with the double lines.

Talking about the country roads part. I think if you read my post, i said i WONT break the law for you, being in the right lane of a dual lane road is breaking the law......

Read under the section "Driving with an Interstate Licence" (is apparently VIC law...)

Someone on a learner's permit cannot drive outside the State in which it was issued.

Vic law has nothing to do with an SA licensed driver

The SA conditions, DO NOT exceed 80 while there, because you will lose your license if caught.
If you have a learner’s permit you need to comply with these driving conditions and laws.
    Learner's permit conditions

Drivers with a learner’s permit must:

    * not drive a motor vehicle unless accompanied by a qualified supervising driver
    * not drive a motor vehicle or attempt to put a motor vehicle in motion when there is any concentration of alcohol in your blood or the presence of THC (Cannabis), Methylamphetamine (Speed) or MDMA (Ecstasy) in your blood or oral fluid (saliva)
    * display the prescribed L-plates so that they are clearly visible from the front and the rear of the vehicle
    * not exceed any speed limit by 10km/h or more (exceeding any speed limit is an offence)
    * not exceed 80 km/h at any time (but you can drive up to 100 km/h if accompanied by a motor driving instructor, in a clearly marked driving school vehicle which is fitted with a dual brake pedal)
    * carry your current learner's permit at all times when driving.

L and P1 drivers are also banned from using any type of mobile phone function while driving. This includes using hands-free mode and Bluetooth technology, loud speaker operation and text messaging. The penalty includes an on-the-spot fine and three demerit points. For more information go to the road safety website Open in new window.

That just means, Vic L platers cant drive interstate, and SA L platers can (cbf looking for other states, but i assume they will all be different to SA lol)

How long has that law about VIC learners not driving interstate. I live right next to the border and used to travel into SA all the time in L's I know that was a zillion years ago at it would have changed back and forth 50 times since then like all the license laws tend to do. But it seems like a really stupid law to me. Also I don't beleive you have to drive 80 in Vic on SA Ls. The whole reason Victoria don't have a limit is because it's safer at 100, you unsafe South Australians should respect this, if you are in Victoria you drive on Victorian rules and that's it

like i said to whatshis face, no-way i'd risk losing my license for you. Theres plenty of shit laws, but is it really worth taking the risk so a few impatient motorists can get somewhere quicker, just to make a stand against a shitty law? All that will get you is longer time without your license.

But Stealthy, it's obvious you have to go by the laws of whre you are, you don't want to get busted for driving too slow either, trucks get very unhappy sitting behind slow cars, it just ends up in them passing in crazy spots. It's the same as if you went to Latin America, just because you're Australia doesn't mean you stay restricted not being able to do burnouts and need to only play with 16+ year old girls

Different countries is a different thing. Both websites clearly state, you HAVE to follow the conditions of your license. A conditions of being an L plater in Sa is no exceeding 80 (unless you have an instructor with you, but i doubt you'd be going on holidays with your instructor)

Like i said, i couldn't care less about impatient drivers. I'm never running late, because i leave early.

I already 'won' your contest. OP is from SA, so has to follow SA conditions.

The whole idea of being restricted to 80 is because they assume you can't handle a car at higher speeds, your skills don't change when you cross the border.....

Well this is a very grey area, lucky there is no South Australian cops over the border to bust you for doing more than 80
