    Default Performance Chips

Has anyone got a performance chip installed in their commodore? I have heard they can give you up to 20 more horses, but some say they are very bad for you engine.

this is true. there are people on ebay who sell chip that yes do increase power but do it such a manner that the engine may possibly be damaged. how these chips work is they give the ecu false reading from your sensors and trick the engine in to thinking things are happening which are not, like mixtures running lean so the ecu tries to richen the mixtures up or make the ecu think that the incoming air is cooler than it really is so the ignition is advanced and can cause pinging if advanced to much. so i wouldnt trust any mod chip or eprom chip. the best way is to get a car tuned or i do know of a guy on ebay who retunes factory memcals and gets power gains by not tricking the ecu but giving more precise readings and fuel and ignition maps with a genuine delco program.

With that being said, does anyone know how much greenfoam or delcowizzid charge for tunes?

Just been looking through ebay, and out of the chips on there this seems like the safe one, since it uses a genuine delco programme. He ensures me it is not a mod or eprom chip. There is a chip on ebay called Dynopower, looks a bit dodgy to me.

This is the one im looking at getting:

PERFORMANCE CHIP / MEMCAL VR VS VT V6 - eBay Mod Chips, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 09-Mar-10 17:59:48 AEDST)

^^^ That $40 changeover thing sounds a bit sus to me.

"The buyer has the option of purchasing the memcal outright by not sending the standard chip in changeover. In this case the $40 security deposit will simply not be refunded."

In that case it will cost you $145 and not $105.

Its upto you, but being a member on here I don't see why you wouldn't give one of these guys some buisiness (these guys being other members: foamy or delco, and others)

Not sure about the tunes, but the tuned memcal by the ebay user Blackstar7000 would be ok, I've met the guy, names Tony.

LOL!!! i remember years ago, i bought a "performance chip" from ebay, there wasno picture except "up to 20 HP" image, so anyhow paid something rediculously small for it 20 bucks plus delivery, and thought WOW that's ****en cheap man. A few days later I ended up geting a small envelope with something inside, i opened it up to find an invoice and in the folded invoice was a small resistor.....

Go get a MACE chip. Well worth it. Also they are a site sponsor so you know you will get proven results.

I haven't fitted it yet. I am kind of scared too. My mate put one in his VN and reckons it's off tap now. VR's have electronic gearboxes as you know so everything will be different and this car already is scary to drive in rain. I am not trying to take buisness off you I just know some times it is hard to source memcals and also to find the time to begin with. Sorry if I offended either you or foam

When I get a chance I will be back to back testing the Mace memcal to a standard one. Will post results. Should be in the next few weeks.

Foamy did a burn for me. $80 from memory for a VT2. Special - because it had some trick things done to work with an oversize throttlebody. Noticable gains ? definitley. 20 horses ? very likely - never dyno'd it to prove though. Mad it the wet ? Not really. The special stuff I had done makes it easier off the mark in the wet for control.

not normally depending on who made it. its the fact you make more torque at less throttle that saves the fuel as well as better combustion

Hey Foamy - No I didn't find out what that rattle on the limit was, yes you dropped the shift points maybe 200 rpm and it went away. I want to get you to redo it for me in near future to suit 3.7 diff gears.

Can you do a speedo adjust in the PCM or do I need to get the jaycar kit ?
