Hey guys (and gals)
Just wondering what everyone thinks if they have been in a similar position or not.
(been badly rear ended / 3 car pile up, I was stationary and ended up hitting the car infont of me when I was rear-ended)
Just wondering if you guys think it will be written off? or rough estimates of possible repairs?
Back was caved in, rear quarter panels bent, doors were crimped and only a couple could open but not with ease, probably in need of a front bumper.
I am getting proper quotes and insurance assessors looking at it in the next few days.
Just keen to see what ball park they might be up for for repairs or if they might issue a write off.
(yes I know its hard to tell without looking underneath the car, structural etc but just looking for ball park as I have no idea)
Insured for around $20k to $24k AGREED
2004 VY II Acclaim, stock as a rock (oh but VY S 16" mags)
Any advice is welcome, cheers!

Imo i don't think it will be a write off judging by the pics, new rear bar, tail light and beat the rear quarters, touch up the front bar and it might be ok. But in all honesty it won't take much for them to right it off but i think your safe!
Like you said, hard to tell really.
But as you said the doors wont open/close very easily, I'd say thats a pretty good sign that its f**ked. Unlucky dude, hope your alright though.
Yeah I am fine, fortunately and suprisingly the clown that hit me was fine as well.
Id be pretty pissed if I was him though, pay for a car with airbags and his car was pretty screwed up and they didnt even deploy. Toyota echos for ya...
I am hoping for a write off, surely that much damaged repaired will devalue the car.
Been a ripper car, no complaints at all, super reliable, havent spent a dime on it apart from services and tyres.
But happy to see it go if I get compensated duely for it.
Surely it will be 5k to 10k to repair at least?
And not only do some of the doors not open they like overlap etc.

id say write off as its twisted the body under itself, if you pull up the carpet in the boot, id say the floor is creased,
is your car insured? youll just get what the agreed value or market value is on your policy,

VT S Packs All The Way!!!
what about the boot floor? bent?
Couldn't open the boot to see because it was fused shut but had to crawl through the seat hole to get my gear out the boot and the cardboard / timber floor was cracked and broken. So god knows what the metal around the wheel well was like.
I have agreed value.
With an agreed value policy of $20k to $24k they could run up a pretty big repair bill before they would write it off, unless of course it is not practicle to attempt a repair due to the body being twisted and floors bent etc. Looking at the way the rear door overlaps the rear panel I would say there is some major distortion of the body, so they may deem it too much work to repair and write it off. I'd push for a write off and pocket my $20k.
you've got a fairly high agreed value, in which case I'd say it will be deemed repairable
Just depends what sort of damage there is to the floor pan
Mate, if you have it insured for $24k I'd be praying it IS a write off! No way in hell will you ever sell it for even close to that![]()

When my old VY S2 exec was rear ended it needed a new boot lid, new metal panels behind the rear bumper, chassis straightened (was 5mm out) new heavy duty towbar, new rear lights and spare tyre storage floor straightened and it came to just under $4500NZ.
Mine did not have any front damage and no damage to the rear quarter pannels i would estimate your damage could come to arround $10000 - $15000 depending on if any chassis damage rear suspension damage and boot floor damage. I also notice you have factory rear parking sensors, if they have to be replaced last time i looked they were an $800NZ+ kit from holden.
Good luck if they do fix it your car is likely to be off the road for 4+ weeks while everything is fixed up.
Your best bet would be to take it to a panel beater shop and see what they see to get a proper idea. Also if you open the boot, take some picts and also under the car as well.
Yeah currently getting assessed anyway, just trying to get a bit of a feel for it.
Cheers batemada for the info.
Thanks all for the help so far.
if the floor is bent in anyway it will be written off, my vt floor was creased and weld was broken..was instant dismissal.

the cars over 5 years old now.
definate writeoff insurance wise. The whole rear looks twisted in the pics.
Hard to say without looking underneath it. Could be boarderline but up around $5-8k to fix.

With 20 grand to play with that will be fixed for sure, couple aprentices can afford to spends months on it. getting it straight for that much money
if you dont mind me asking where did this happen? my friends boyfriend was in an accident driving a black echo in qld in the holidays where he rear ended someone and they rearended another person. the chances of this being the same crash is pretty unlikely but i just thought id ask
Any updates from the assessors?
Repair bill came in at $16,000!
Just shows you a little Toyota Echo can make a big bang.
Still waiting to hear back from the insuance company.
Could be a total loss, will know more in the coming days.
If its insured for $24k and the repair bill is $16k they might still write it off. I don't think I've ever seen a repair quote not blow out, insurance companies know this. Also a lot of insurers offer lifetime repair guarantees, and that is worth a few grand to them.

Nah, a $16k quote is really a $8k job, if the repairer thinks it's going to be a write-off they'll find a way to bring it in under budget, because otherwise they get nothing. It's amazing what they can fix when they want to... The first question any panel shop will ask you is "insurance or private?". If the answer is "insurance" they just pick a number and double it.
