Easier to park, different looks, cheaper insurance, lighter/faster/better handling.
From VY-II onward the Calais is more sports-luxury while the Statesman is just luxury.
I like doing research on cars. I guess most of us do thats why we are here.
I'm thinking, when my lease on the WK Caprice expires I may get another Holden over a BMW/Audi.
So this got me thinking... is there any benifit in getting a Calais V (VE) over a Statesman (WM)? Reason I ask is because pre-owned, but go for about the same price.
I dont think I need another Caprice as the DVD players are never used and I could live without memory seats.

Interesting... you sure about the insurance making a big difference? My WK Caprice I pay under $500 a year, full comprehensive, with hire car and windshield protection.
You make a good point about sports vs. luxury. Yet my WK Caprice is pretty easy to park with the sensors and dipping reverse mirror.

Damn insurance must be cheap in WA! I paid just over $1100 for full compo on my VZ SV6 & havent had an acco in more than 3 yrs.
The Blue One
Really, unless you drive long distances with people in the back, you're better off with the Calais, simply because its a much easier car to drive, being shorter than the Stato and all, yet it still has most of the luxury features that the Stato has.
as goVZ has said, mostly the same features, except a stato/caprice has more leg room, dvd player, memory seats etc.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
You should only buy a Statesman over a Calais if you needed the extra rear legroom, but considering the VE has tons of rear legroom anyway I see no reason in getting a Statesman. You also don't seem too concerned about not having the extra creature comforts so get the Calais.
[QUOTE=PaulSV6;1453474] Lol, my previous insurance was over $750. I got a quote from AAMI and they got me under $500. I nearly fell of my chair too. I even got them to read back to me so they have the right car. But thats what it is and I'm happy. BTW in 30 years old if that means a difference.
No memory seats in the statesman. Bit of a pity as its a good but unnecessary feature.
I know its a couple of year before I need to decide on my next car... but... the thing I like about the Statesman is the wood [look] trim on the dash. Its quite elegant. Pity it is not in the Calais or the Caprice (ones I've seen anyways).
I guess if you want best of both worlds, sports & luxury, the caprice is the best choice. I read a few reviews and the caprice has the sports suspension. Who knows, maybe in a few years time, the caprice will be in my price range with the SIDI. But due to the fact they are a V8 standard and the V6 SIDI is optional (although costs less) it may be a bit hard to find a V6. My current WK Caprice as LPG and I want dont really want the V8 fuel bills when it comes time to upgrade. I wont be going LPG again because the gov has retracted most of the grant money now. So I think the SIDI would be the way to go. I'm quite happy with a V6 power. I used to drive a V6 VN & V6 VX which for a guy like me, is enough.
At the end of the day a BMW 530i or a 325i would be my wish car but even though its affordable to me, the extra purchase price compared to a statesman/caprice is really making me think if its worth it.
