I know why there was no VA or VM but what about the other missing letters?

VD?(lol) VF,**, VI, VJ, VO, VV, VW???

Why did they skip these? I mean, yes VD is a bit wrong, VW is another car brand, and VF/VG/VJ are all Valiants (yes?) But still, most of them could've been used anyway?

Yes because GM have come up with a way to make a straight 6 meet euro standards cheaper than a v-spec engine. Something that Nissan and BMW could not do.
