hi all my name is garry im 25 and now saveing for a better car sick of shity ones
but i have no idea on what to get. dont want to spend $5000 plus on a car to just get borad with it. like i have done with alot of cars.
so what i have been thinking is getting a v6 vn for now and get rid of the heap of shit i got now.
but i want somthing like a vn 5ltr or vp calais 5ltr or a statesman.
so how the hell do i make my mind up.
how did you pick the rite car to buy and do up???
look at prices of parts to see which would be cheaper to do up it is also important to pick the car you would like personally i would pick the statesman
Have a gander thru the "My Ride" threads..And see what owners say about there VN 5l.. for calais 5L etc etc.
By reading what they post about it.. Im you can make you mind up pretty easy.. If I could, I'd buy a vn or vp Calais.. But, thats not going to happen to soon![]()
i have been reading and looking at the cars i like but still not shore have a lil bit of time to make my mind up. just cant think what i would like more i no i have liked the statesman since thay come out so mite look at that. the one with the flat backend think is vr maybe vq.
dont want to spend 5g on a v6. i mite be getting a vn wagen cheepish till i get the cash up for 5ltr my vc takes to much petty for a six would be better puting the cash in a 8
thanks for replying
OP, just keep looking till you find exacally what it is you want, dont settle for just a car if your not totally happy with it.
My VP was originally the car I wanted. My parents owned it for around 10 years or so. I know its history, it had racked up 14,000km in those 10 years so I was happy with it. It has 103,000km on it when I bought it in 2004, which is very low for a 1991 V8.
But its not my ideal everyday car. I used it as a daily for 5 years but now it sits in the shed and gets taken out once or twice a month. Its getting too old to be used as a daily and there is a list of things that need to be fixed.
You will have to be mindful that the initial 5 grand you spend on the car is just the starting point. They are getting old now and need constant maintaining.
I was looking at a HSV with leather and a sunroof.
I ended up with an SS with no leather or sunroof.
how come couldnt find a hsv? or just test drive the ss and like it?
i seen a vs statsman for 5g on a car site had sunroof and leather i would like something like that i think its the only car that i keep thinking of i will be like oh i want a vnss then i dont but the stateman just jumps at me so thinking that mite be the one just need the cash now come on more work lol
MasterOfReality: you still happy with it? and you allway got things to do to cars money hogs lol like the vc i got now dont like it anymore so i have let it down wich sux hassnt brocken down on me or anything.
thanks for replys
I found a few HSV's with leather and sunroof, but they were not well looked after at all. I ended up going to look at the SS and it was a 1 owner with low kms and very well looked after. So just decided that I would go for the SS.
I'm still happy with it, I take it out every now and again. amd it reminds me why I bought another car for a daily :P
Going to take it for its 150,000km service in the next few months and will get new plugs, leads, rotor cap and button and coil. Also thinking about a new twin 2.5" exhaust, 3.9 gears and stage 2 shift kit.
The stuff that needs fixing on it is just an accumulation of small things that have broken or stuffed up. Mechanically its spot on.
The small things I'm talking about is door rubbers, electric windows and switches, roof lining etc etc.....
It will make a good project when I finish renovating the house.
best way in my opinion to buy a car is to search for cars you like obviously, call up the owners and put your offer in for well under what they ask for. If you do this for 10+ cars that your interested in chances are one will bite and take what you offer which will be well under what they ask. Therefor you will pick up a good deal.
I would be impressed if you could find a CLEAN VS stato with leather, sunroof and a 5ltr for $5000.
Put an injected 5ltr in the VC, with a T5 (manual), and cam/exhaust/etc. You'd see that done for $5k, you could probably get the interior tidyied up for that too.
Can't fault a VC, my pick out of the early girls.
