    Default Registration And Insurance

    Just a quick clarification issue:
If you're vehicle is out of registration, is it still covered by Insurance? Or should I refer to the Insurance company to clarify this?

No registration means no CTP which in turn means car is illegal to drive. Illegally driving vehicle means insurance won't pay.

Hmm...well the car's not being driven. Just sits at my girlfriend's driveaway (shes in GC for 2 years).
    Batterys dead.

The reason I ask, is a week or so ago, someone tried to break into it, didnt do any damage, but I was wondering whether I should pay the 612 bloody dollars to have it sit there or just wait till I can drive it up there for her.

You can get lying up insurance which won't matter if the car is not registered. Cheaper than comprehensive as well.

    *Edit*
Will only cover you for theft & vandalism though. Won't help if someone drives it and has an accident.

Yeah i dont see why not.

Aslong as the car wasnt damaged whilst being driven.
In your case, you still pay your insurance to cover theft weather the car be registered or not.

Kind of like a house being insured. If you go on holiday its still insured.
Not like if you leave the house it voids the insurance.

Would your car be covered under your home contents insurance? I supose it would depend policy to policy

Edit - If your car was damaged on ur property of course*

    Simple answer. No.

Even if its through the same insurance company its still completly different insurance wise.

When you transfer your registration over to VicRoads it will need to go for a Vic roadworthy.
Different state laws require a different roadworthy.

So I finally called Allianz (waited till 11pm last night to call), and it turns out having the car Registered is a requirement of any Insurance company, even if the damage was done on your property.

I dont necessarily agree with that logic, only because no one is driving the vehicle, and the vehicle isnt on the road.
And weather damage/vandalism can happen anywhere, but whatever, guess Im another 600 out of pocket.
