barina auto problem ( sorry not about vr/vs)

hi

sorry this is not about a commodore but i get my best advice from here.

my girl has a barina early 90's model. In the morning when its cold it wont select 1st gear. it will if i manually select it but if left in drive it will hold in 3rd for 1st 20-30 mins of driving. its painful hearing her labour up the slight hill from here each morning in 3rd hahaha.
any advice u all could shed would be apreciated

It sounds like the transmission is going into limp home mode.Try disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes and see how it goes then.If it goes back to normal at first,but then goes back to limp home mode,there will be some sort of problem with the transmission.Has the transmission been serviced,if not it probably needs a service badly.Holden can connect a scantool and test the transmission for faults.

only had the car for about a month. i will try the battery idea and also book it in for a service soon.
