hi just would like to know if anyone can help.i just bought a vn ss,got it a rwc and rego today,it a 5 litre and got ss badges, but heres my problem ,scrolling through this site i found sum vin numbers for vn coms,my vin number is 6h8vnk19hll413607,is this suppose to be a 6 cycliner or is it a vn ss ,my car has no mon plates, thanks any help would be appreciated
so you have no compliance plates on the firewall ?
6H8VNK19 basically means Exec sedan, which the SS is based on so that doesn't really tell us much
I'm fairly sure the next digit for a V8 should be a 'U'.... but your vin has a 'H', which might suggest it wasn't originally a V8 ?
Commodorenut on SC forum is the guru on these numbers (and just about anything else with a Commodore badge)
Correct, H is the code for V6. So its not a factory VN SS. Although theres nothing in the VIN that says its an SS, as K is the luxury level used by Exec, S, and SS so it could be any of those. (and other SSs can't be totally distinguished by the VIN alone, you need the model pack from the other plate)
U is the code for V8 (the L after the H means its a 1990 model, if that helps)
