hey guys, i welded my diff about a month ago and the other week i went over a speed bump at about walking speed and it made a loud bang then has had a ticking/rattling noise ever since. its been a week since that happened, now when i turn corners hard it doesnt skip or budge or anything. feels and sounds just like an open diff. what could the problem be?
oh my god are you serious? what else could it be, the welds are broken buddy, pretty simple shit.
just to add, if you want a diff locked for cheap, go get a mini spool
i only welded it coz it was rattling and knocking in the first place as a quick fix. sounds stupid but will it be alright to drive?
oh i forgot to mention it was still locked until tonight
1. buy new diff..
2. buy mini spool
3. put minispool in diff
4. diff in car
5. have fun............................
That is all
^Agree.
Your diff is likely rooted, get new one.

This thread is an epic fail. You rooted the diff the minute you put a welder near it.
could have snapped your axle? jack up the car put it in gear and spin the wheels if they move opposite then ur welds broke if one spins freely and the other is locked hard then u snapped your axle lol
weld the brake shoes to your rotors for better stopping power.

I did the "bush locker" with the EH stock car. Ran the high tensile rod around and around that diff until it was nice and solid. Raced for 2 seasons without fail. We concrete pits in Woomera and you had to blip the throttle to turn. So we hammered the diff I can tell you!!
So if you get enough weld into it and the correct type of electrode - should not break......

MIG welders are the go. Much easier to get good penitration .
I know a few people that run CIG centres in the front of there 4bs.
This is quite a common problem. It happens because people dont know how to correctly weld their differentials. I have attached a picture for future reference.

hahahahaha thats soooo funnyyy just imagine trying to get that together and wondering what the promlem is fail!!!!!!!!
LSD or Minispool. Or...Learn to weld a diff, Go for mig or arc make sure the Migs cranked up to try and burn the diff oil out from the gears as it will compromise the weld strength. Or Crank the good old ARC up.
SabbathSS, that pic is funny as...I'm curious, how did that picture come to be? Please tell me you didnt do that and take the pic to post on here asking what you did wrong...lol

It's all over the net man, most forums have a thread on it. I think it started on a 4WD forum but I'm not entirely sure.
