G'Day guys, I have a VTII SS and my LS1 has piston slapped itself to death, so what I'm looking at doing is just replacing it with a new crate motor. I can get the VZ LS1 from Holmart right now but if I wanted to what would I need to shoehorn a L76 or L98 into my car?
Also does anybody know what the bearing # is for inside the aircon compressor?
Fair bit of work changing to L98 mainly because it uses a different reluctor wheel. By the time you have an L98 in there I think the usual figure drive in drive out from a workshop is over $10k.
How keen are you? It can be done, it's straight forward, just a lot of fiddly stuff to be changed. Head over to LS1.com.au forum, there's plenty of info on the swap there.

i read there is some mob selling an electronic adaptor thingy to make the L98 reluctor wheel talk to the earlier LS1 computer.
that street machine magazines 'street machine commodores' or whatever it is did a write up on this exact topic not long ago, from memory that reluctor issue was the biggest hassle with the swap. if no one else has got a copy of that mag i've got one at home i can have a look at for ya
Pretty sure Castle Hill performace sell the reluctor box conversion.

If you dont do the Box conversion there is alot of work involved, same deal on an LS2

no worries i can have a look for ya, wont be for a month until i get home from work again. although im pretty sure there isn't anything in that write up that isnt covered in the LS2 forums link above. i had a quick look and the GMM cam and knock sensor harnesses look like they could save some hassle.
there was a thread on here not long ago about a vs with L98 motor that died when it warmed up, a few people said that if the reluctor adapter box gets too hot it can stop working so make sure its in the coolest place u can find. something to keep in mind if u go ahead with the swap.
