After weeks and weeks looking for tyres on the cheap for 225/60R15 for my VN Calais all I could find was tyres for $160+ each, I nearly settled for it then thought thats $640 for 4.. nearly what it cost to buy my car.
Searching forums I read a lot of people talking about Highway Max and thought that they sounded pretty good. Some claiming that they cant spin the wheels anymore unless they give it a boot full, another saying he got 3 secs faster down the quarter mile due to no wheel spin and another saying they are the best handling tyre they have ever used.
Well after getting a quote from TheWheelDeal (Just Commodores sponsor) at $60-65 a tyre I couldn't go wrong. They arrived yesterday and I was amazed at how good they look and how soft and grippy they are just to the touch.
The pattern's I have heard come in a Michelin and Pirelli, I'm not 100% sure but I think 215's and under are Michelin pattern and 225's and wider are Pirelli pattern (possibly the other way around).
I haven't fitted them yet but I'll put them on in the next few days and looking forward to seeing how they preform. I have good expectations of them.
I'll post some pic's to show what they look like and would be interested in other's thoughts about them.
Just 1 question, I usualy run 37psi on my current 225/60R15s but they wear uneven on the back (center wears out faster) is 37psi too much for them or could anyone tell me what would be recommended pressure for them? Thanks!

look good will be getting a set of these sooner than later
I had to drop my 255/whatever/15s down to 30psi to not wear out the middle so I'd say you're wayyyy high on 37psi.

I run my 225/50/16s at 36psi which is what the tyre place recommended when I bought them.
No uneven wear that I can see.
Maybe check with TheWheelDeal for their opinion ?
I run my highway max at 38 psi on the street and drag strip, wheel spin does not exist on 2.0 60 foots, but I have IRS and pretty much only use them at the drags so I've never had a set last more than 3000 road ks, so I don't know what the wear pattern is like at 38psi. Anything close to or slightly under that pressure should be mint, just experiment a bit to see how your car likes it. I wouldn't say they are the best handling tyre goingbut most sticky for your dollar absolutely
Well i have mine set at 38 (i think) and there pretty good, going to put them down to 34-35 tonight...
Well i have 3.9's with a spool and can launch it at full stall (only stock auto) with no wheelspin....
In the wet they grip fantastic, I can actually take off the line with more then 1/2 - 3/4 throttle with the highways but in the wet with other tyres i could spin 5500 in 2nd easily, sometimes 3rd gear. And thats in a slapper v6 lol
Also a little note for the people with spools, corners where old tyres would shake the shit out of my car, With the highways you cant even tell i have a spool(willing to show anybody if they want to see?) Thats how damn soft they are

Run my 225/50/16's at 36 psi like tyre shop said. No prob except very slight centre wear on the back ones.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
do they come in a 235 or 245? 15
Not sure you would have to ask TheWheelDeal
You can find his forum threads here Wheel Deal
lol ur gettin ripped if ur payin $160 each tyre for 15's..i get alot cheaper 17's for that..
and i put my tyres up2 40psi, they are fine

Not getting ripped off as I payed $65 per tyre, and yeah for normal 225 in a 15 they are expensive and hard to find these days. 17's and 18's are a lot cheaper for tyres, I have seen them for around $80 each for new decent looking ones.
i have the same tyres on my rear, they look really tough and yeah i can't spin the wheels (5ltr). cost me $72 fitted each at highway themselves. you really cannot go wrong with these tyres, one of the last 'value for money' companies around
Being earlier described as "soft" and "can't spin the wheels", I would think that they would wear down quite fast as it sounds like they may be a soft compound tyre. Anyone know what sort of mileage these tyres are giving?
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Can you guys who have bought these tyres tell me how noisy they are? I have a Chinese Cheapie on the back and it howls like buggery. Next tyres have to be a lot quieter, so I would appreciate your views.
Man... I don't think they make any sound at all at least not one that I can hear in my car. They make LOTS of noise after a burnout and run down the drag strip once you are back on the gravel and get stones stuck all over themtinkTINKTINktink TINKTNITNKTNINKNTKn tink tink
They don't last long compared to a hard tyre made from a plastic like substance but they have a very tall tread so for a soft tyre they last as long as you can expect
I have to get me some of these if I am ever in Victoria.

I think Ill get another pair in the next few weeks after I put new rubbers in and get the wheels aligned, drivers side was wearing bad on the inside and the rubber at the top of the strut tower all fell apart.
I got them fitted today, $10 per tyre including balancing. The tyre shop told me 34psi if I do long distance driving and 36psi for around town or short distance driving.
I do a fair bit of both so maybe Ill just keep them on 35psi next time I pump them up, he put them all on 34psi.
Unpaid fines.
SA Transport won't let me register my car. Fines are for forgetting to renew my registration, I thought I had 2 days left but it was already 1 day over due.
Moved house 2 times in 2 months and couldn't find the fine now I have to pay extra, can't afford it and if i scraped up enough money somehow then I still need to pay rego too.
Going to have to find out if I can pay it off in installments and still register my car while I'm paying off the fine. No idea if they will do that but seems my only option right now.
