Hi Guys,
I am after a little bit of advice; recently I undertook journey to QLD where I now reside. Anyways I filled up at Warrick on the way to Brisbane, for those that know SEQ will know Warrick is in bumfark nowhere-ville; since then my car has ran like a fair dog.
The car seems to run fair shit, with an inconsistant miss when it has been sitting in the one spot for a few hours. This occurs for about the first 15min of driving and then goes away. I believe the problem may be shit fuel as after dumping a bottle of octane booster in it ran fine from a cold start, then after sitting for a few hours it ran like shit again.
So my question peeps, whats the best way to clean out a fuel tank while still in the car, what should I use, etc... I will be changing the fuel filter at the same time just to make sure I get rid of the crap!

There is no real way to clean a tank in the car, my only advice would be to run the tank as empty as possible with the old filter attached and then fill it up with a good tank full of new fuel and then put on the new filter. There are some products that claim to work with cleaning systems, the only one i would recommend would be a fuel injector cleaner. As for your miss fire it really could be a fw things. The fuel may have been a coincedence, check your leads and plugs first. If it is a v6 check your coils, Check compression and do a leak down test, then if all else fails get your injectors cleaned in an ultra sonic bath. If it was dirty fuel your misfire should be there all the time, because your fuel is at constant supply.
top the e the tank up with fresh fuel and add a bottle of metho run acouple of tanks thru then change the filter , sounds like you got water in the fuel
Yeah it seems like shit fuel, the leads are fine, and the plugs are fine both were replaced only 5000kms ago. There is a consistancy with the missfire; when the car is stationary and on a flat surface it tends to messfire pretty badly; this has lead me to believe the pick up is sucking in a lovely mouthful of crap fuel.
I will run metho though the system in the next tank, and change the fuel filter afterwards.
