hey guys,
i have myself a VN commodore, and am about to buy myself a TX Gemini (Project Car). my Mate has a Torana (im pressuming its an LX) which he's almost completed and i wanted to match his car or possibly better it in power. ~No i dont plan to do anything stupid in this car with the money im planning on spending on it
anyway, i'll get to the point:
what kinds of modifications to a completely stock TX Engine can i do to give it more power. i was thinking turbo kit but thats a bit expensive to start off with. i was thinking of Performance Chips (dont know if they go in a Gemini or not), Putting a VP engine in it or something but im not too mechanically minded in these things*
any suggestions will be great but please dont insult or abuse what i am planning to do to it if you object.
*I fix tractors for a living haha. they are very different to Cars [i've found]
Turbo Rotary
bore, cam, ah who am i kidding, bet a different engine. different carby? i dont know bugger all about these, but im gonna go out on a limb and say they arent efi :P V6 conversations seem to be the s#$t though. dunno how much works involved though. maybe try a different model, or even a different car, such as a old supra or gallant.
your talking about wanting to out do a torana in a car designed to pick up the groceries by a single mother.
haha yea, i looked up the power of the torana vs a VN.. torana still wins. but once im done with it, she'll be a beast. i want to enter it in competitions etc in the future (once its finished) but i need to work on something under the bonnet. Exterior is all planned out.
im not sure whether i've done this right or not but would a Turbo Charger really increase HP from 84 to 530ish? because if thats the case then i'll probably just chuck a turbo on the 4cyl it has already. from experience with a mates Nissan Exa n12, 4cyl turbos go rather well.
would things like extractors, exhaust modifications, podfilters (please list more coz i dont know much) increase power?? *feels stupid*
edit:
oh and can someone please check over this link to see if its all that is needed for a turbo install?

(i will probably get a mechanic to fit it for me)

ok mate, im into isuzu bits and pieces. the TX gemini is a little bit different to the rest of the T series gemini. depending on how much money you want to spend there are a number of things you can do.
some popular power mods are
webber carbys and EFI conversions( using rodeo manifold)
some people swap later model motors from rodeos into them this is a relitively easy swap
ive seen a lot of engine conversions in geminis,
holden V8s and V6s
nissan 6s and 4s
mitsubishi 4s
rotorys
and many more
it really depends on how much power your aiming to get and how much your willing to spend doing it
cheers
michael

its really not that easy mate, it can be done but there are things youve got to modify to turbo a gemini, as they are a carburetor fed engine, you cant just whack a turbo on. how much HP do you think this torana has?

a turbo is all good and proper. and yes, you could out run a torana easily. but for how long do you intend to do this for? you would have to strength a stock engine like a mofo.
the Torana has about 120hp (i think is what he said).
## We couldnt get the TX Gemini unfortunately. was really looking foward to it, going to a 1978 TOYOTA COROLLA KE30. that is a smaller engine, Less power but a car that is just as good looking to do up (IMO) that means needing bigger mods lol.
when i asked for suggestions for power increase, i was hoping for more posts of something along the lines of:
You could put a VN engine in it, but that means you have to put reinforcements to hold the bigger engine, better brakes, and *Ra ra ra .. change engine stuffs etc*
*bump* toyota corolla ke30 rather than tx gem!
