Default Is my VL worth anything?

    Hi all,

I have a VL commodore sitting in my front yard that I have to do something with. It was my first car but when it kept having niggly problems and I could no longer justify the mechanics bills I stopped using it. It hasn't run in over a year and isn't registered. It would need quite a lot of work to get it road worthy.

I think for a car of its age the body and interior is in good condition and the motor always seemed to run strong when it was going. On the down side - it has LPG which is overdue to be checked and re-certified, the mechanic said there is problems with the petrol tank (it hadn't run in petrol for quite some time), the tyres are probably no good from sitting still, battery is dead flat (of course), it was broken into in the past and damaged steering column was replaced with one of different colour, as a result of same break-in the panel is stretched a little around the door lock on drivers side. (The would-be thief didn't get anywhere with the car due to immobiliser so only damage was from screwdriver they used to get in and try to start car). Think that's about it.

So, I'm wondering whether I could sell this for some $$$ or should just offer it to the wreckers for $50. It has to go anyway but some cash would come in really handy about now. I've looked around at ads for VLs but the ones I've seen not registered at least run and I haven't found any with dual fuel. If its worth trying to sell it'd be really good to get an idea on what anyone would be willing to pay for it.

    Thanks for any help.

Thanks to both of you. Its good to get a figure that it may be near or under - a relative had claimed it was worth $2000 but I really didn't believe that as you should be able to get a working VL for that I think.

Here's a link to some pics I took last year before I decided to cash in the rego:

Are these kind of photos helpful or do you need to see under the bonnet or other specific parts?

Body and interior look in great nick, I'd sell it as a project/first car that needs work/parts. I agree, you'd definitely get at least $500.

Thanks guys - that's exactly the sort of feedback I was after. I'm going to try selling it for $500 and think I'll use your wording spokkeh - thanks for that. I'll let you all know how I get on.
