I wholeheartedly concur.
But then I think massive rims kill the look of any car, they're just plain ugly... Cars are supposed to have tyres, not just wheels :P
I agree 100% The trouble is trying to find tyres to suit the old wide 14 and 15 inch rims.
Absolutely....No older car should have any bigger than 15" wheels. They also shouldn't have any smaller than 15" wheels. Bigs & littles FTW.
I have no problems getting 255/60/15's for my cars, we also had no problems getting 295/50/15's. There are still plenty of companies making old school 15" tyres.
I was after some 235 or 245/60/15s for the rear can you still get them?
Yep, anything bigger than about a 17" is going to destroy the look of most cars IMO. Anything with paint smears for tires is just ridiculous!
some old cars look tuff as with big rims imo

I guess it also depends what you class as an "old car"....I class an old car as anything pre Commodore. ^^Those wheels look hidious either way though IMO.
Dont agee sorry, 14's and 15's look so small on commodores and other big cars, although i think 20's are a bit big as it does not leave alot of room for the tyre. I have 17 inch chromies on my vr and they look great, but everyone has their own opinion, cheers Bob.
17's are as big as i would go on any older car (60's, 70's and early 80's.)
Chromies are horrid regardless of the car or age. And when the wheel is clearly WAY to big for the car, its just spastic.
Also my other pet hate is people getting around with 20" chromies on the front and 15" stockies on the back... It looks pov to say the least.
I agree that those chromed monstrosities look shit on ANY car, and particularly early models, but there are some oldies that can be enhanced if you go no further than say 17's, and the style of the wheel complements the shape of the car. Some factory designs that interchange with the oldies can really look good, but unfortunately, if we are talking about Holdens, the stud patterns prevent this. Fords get away with it because they have retained the stud pattern for so many years.
I often wonder why those chromed things are all so bloody ugly - there isn't a decent design amongst them. They belong on ricers, but even then, they still look shithouse.

22"s are the new 20"s these days.. you see little cars trying to fit them onto it..
theres an R33 with 22"s on it in sydney and it looks horrible..
Also my other pet hate is people getting around with 20" chromies on the front and 15" stockies on the back... It looks pov to say the least.[/QUOTE]
Totaly agree
Its because they leave the stockies on because they do burn outs
They can only aford $20 tyres from the wreckers
And they can't aford to buy 20" tyres all the time
Or they can't aford the 20" rims
They just look like flipin idiots
I don't drive around like that btw 20s on the front and stockies on the back is like hey mr police man come rape me
Hahaha, it's too bad - that's a nice car until you look at the wheels.
If by old you mean 70's muscle cars then smaller wheels look awesome, small wheel running fat rubber. Newer cars nothing bigger than an 18".
I agree 100%...I have a 82 Camaro and she looks good on 15" with BF Goodrich tyres, I've seen 16/17/18" wheels on earlier chevs and they look out of place.
Sometimes yes, other times no.
Chromies are a touchy subject, some look amazing and some look revolting.
No one tell me that this doesnt look good:

Yes they are and that is the worst looking XY I've ever seen in my life, someone needs to take a chainsaw to those wheels and then to the guy that put them on it. Anything bigger than a 17 looks a disaster on any car but on a old car it's just almost unbearable. 15 inch wheels are the most pleasing size to the human eye, maybe 14's on some oldies.
That Falcon reminds me of chassis setup wheels for rc cars lol
