Exhaust Question. V6

Hey all,
I have a 2.5inch catback exhaust with no resinator on my vs v6. They muffer had been 'punched' in the middle from a rock i ran over. It also created a small hole which i have properly sealed up, so that's no longer a problem. I need a new exhaust basically, though i can't afford one yet. Can i

1. Cut out the muffler and weld a 2.5inch pipe in its place? I know its illegal but will it damage my engine for a few months until i can afford a new exhaust?

2. Would i be better to put a 'hotdog' universal muffler or similar in it's place?

3. Leave it with a munted muffler.

leave it munted imo, other parts involve spending money, money which could be going towards a new exhaust.

Thats what i was thinking, but i can get a hotdog for under $20 and offcut of 2.5" pipe for free, and i can weld it all up.

Yeah i was stoked when i found those, but i have IRS .. Cheapest i could find was $300 delivered i think
