Hi there. I have a VT calais SII, with LS1. I've had the car for a while now, and I'm about to attempt my first oil change. I've been reading up on the info, and it seems like there's a trend towards synthetic oil. I'm not sure if
A) I'll benefit from changing?
B) do I need to flush the old oil out before I put in the synthetic?
C) If I change to semi-synthetic, do I still need to flush the old oil?
What's everyone's opinion?
I wouldn't stress too much about flushing it.
How many Km's has your car done?
If close to or over 200k i wouldn't bother with the synthetic stuff.
It's done 165,000km. Should I still bother with the semi-synthetic? Sorry for the amateur questions, I don't want to comprimise engine longevity, but at the same time without blowing my small budget.
Conclusion: I got 10 litres of 0w40 valvoline fully synthetic and oil flush. I'm gonna make the change when it stops raining and I find someone who'll lend me a 15mm socket.
10ltr! jesus are you made of money? Haha
165 - meh it'll be alright. As it gets older though it might want a thicker oil.
They were on clearance at my local repco for $20 per 5 litre bottle. i couldn't believe my luck. Last two bottles in store too.
Thank you for your advice bro, I can't wait to see if there's a difference.![]()
Damn thats a good buy. I get my Valvoline SuperSyn or whatever its called from Big W, weird that the cheapest place to get quality engine oil is from Big W.
