So we know that if I car has been out of rego for more than 3 months or something it will need a rwc and to be inspected by vicroads. I'm looking at maybe buying a car thats been out of rego for 3 years (garaged) just wondering if i will be in for too much of a headache to get it through the pits?
thoughts/opinions?
you'll need to take it to a shop that does roadworthys. god knows what its gonna need.
vicroads will mainly check the engine number and vin, and the colour on the car.
maybe see if you can get the car checked before buying it, see what it needs and weigh up the cost.
ah ok so it's not really that different to buying a car with no rwc.
vicroads just check it's not stolen, etc
not sure if he'll do that, but I no a few good places in geelong to get it roadied.
ill take a mechanic friend with me when i look at it.
only difference with buying an unregistered car is it has to go to vic roads for an inspection, which you will need to make an appointment for, the vic roads guy will walk out to your car you pop the bonnet he wrights down the engine number and vin number and see's what colour the car is. Then he goes back inside and checks it all matches up with the records they have, or if the engine has been changed he will then update the records with the new engine number (so long as the engine is not out of a car thats been reported stolen)
Nothing to it really, you just need to have a roadworthy certificate for the vehicle and a receipt written by the guy who sells it to you stating his full name and address and the vehicle details vin/ engine numbers (doesn't have to be the last registered owner on vic roads records, anyone can wright you a receipt if they sell you the car)
It costs more to register the car 1st time that it would just transfer the rego on a registered car, inspection fee / number plates / appointment fee / vehicle duty etc vicroads website has a calculator that will tell you the costs exactly.
sweet thats exactly what I wanted to know thanks heaps!
