Handbrake headache!

Hey guys just wanting advice on the handbrake in my VX. It wasnt working when i bought my car so i procceded to adjust the handbrake at the rear wheel drums. After alot of screwing around i tightened it all up and it was sweet.
8weeks later its like i never touched the thing and ive got a handbrake that does nothing again. Ive also tryed tightening the nut on the handbrake leaver its self but it didnt make too much of a difference.
And 1 weird thing ive also noticed is the handbreak will work if my cars rolling forward but wont work when its rolling backwards?????

Maybe the Handbrake adjuster has had the tang broken off that holds the star shaped adjuster in place causing it to back off ?

Hard to say without seeing it myself.

Handbrakes hardly ever work in reverse anyway due to leading and trailing edges.
