    Default Car Lifting

    Whats the safest way to raise the car without having stands that people have found? a mate of mine has a pit that I've used a couple times but he lives miles away..

    every other time i've just put a railway sleeper on the road, then driven the left wheels onto the kerb and the right wheels onto the sleeper.

    The safest way I found without having stands was to go out and buy a set of stands. Haven't had an issue since

    Philthy is right, it costs about $40 for a pair of stands. Or if you have a bit of extra dough, ramps are worth thier weight in gold.

    And also considering you are only holding 2/3 of the cars weight max, less than half if you put stands on the back.

    Ruts in the road work good;

    Seriously, car ramps are good too! If you put one on the footpath next to the gutter, then drive up the gutter, then up higher onto the ramp with the front wheel, you will be able to get right under a 2WD vehicle very easily. I did this to change a rear wheel on a front engine 2WD without a jack. I just lifted the back wheel arch of the car with my index finger and all the weight lifted up easy!

    A set of ramps and stands are worth their weight in kerbs.
