So, put a deposit on a 1996 BLACKVS Calais, booked the flights and everything.
Flying out of avalon (geelong/melbourne vic) at a ridiculous 6:10AM and training it from sydney airpport to pick up my new car.
Any tips/things i should check before the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNGGGG drive back to vic?
anything i should do whilst in sydney? lol.
yes! large container of water is a great idea. mechanically the car "should" be fine but you can never know.
so keen for cruise control!!! lol my last car was an exec.
check the spare wheel too make sure she's pumped up.
Make sure you also have a spare Serpintine Belt for the Engine as well, just incase.
When you check the spare see if there is one in the boot or ask they guy, if not buy one before you go or before you depart to go home.
Make sure you check engine oil level and also trans ol level.
Make sure you also have a wheel brace to suit the car, if it has locking nuts the right lock nut remover and also a jack and jack handle.
cheers guys, didn't think of the serpintine belt. will check all of those before I leave.
at all the suggestions. Here's a tip, pay the $100 odd and get roadside assist and take nothing. It is an 8 hour highway drive. Anyone would think your trekking across the outback by some of the suggestions.

yeah fair point, it's the same distance as Adelaide and i dont take anything special (except for water) when I go down there and i've down that a few times.
Good luck mate you sound excited.
Pics of car, trip if you take any, reset trip metre for fuel usage.
When you get her home.

its not hard to get sleepy on that highway. take ya ipod with a radio transmitter attached to it, they work a lot better in the country than the city. or get some cd's. have some water in the cab with ya, it can be a fair hike between servo's. try not to overdose on energy drinks too many of them make ya crook in the guts. if u get sleepy hop out for a bit, have a stretch etc
yeah, hopefully Ill get most the driving out of the way before dark. I think the cars got the stock tape player lol so no cds.
those energy drinks just make me sleepy unless i'm moving around a lot.
yeah got the old pod and one of those tape to 3.5mm things.
praying the tape player still works lol
You don`t need to do it in one go.
But if you are like me pumped up with a new toy and a new adventure and trip U will be find.
Me 12hrs to blue mountains from brisbane.
2 packs on fags and a lot of music and a short break.
It`s good to stop for a wee and walk around.
I`ll be waiting for the ride pics.

lol
will do all that minus the smokes, should be a good trip!
almost paid for a mates flight to come with me but he couldn't get it off work
my ride thread cominggg soon as I get home lol
goodluck with it mate but yeah this is a pretty small journey, did adel to syd over newyears in my executive, loved it. watch out for truck drivers, had one run me off the road which totalled the clip on my muffler had to repair it with the help of a local servo in a town which let me use their tools.
It seem's like a huge trip the first time but like minux is saying its not difficult, so dont get psyched out, and have some goddam fun, if you can go through teh blue mountains theres some amazing sights up there, i fell in love with them (comments about the girls hooked up with there another time) plenty of decent nightclubs there, checkout panthers in penrith if your feeling up to it.
NSW cops have nothing on the anal-ness of SA cops, but dont take that as an excuse to do anything stupid, stick to the road rules, you dont need to prove anything, show off or test the car above legal limits.
im surpised no one has suggested this yet. ontop of the road side assist dont forget to get your insurance sorted before you drive home.
dont forget the roads will all be unknown and if you end up driving at night big chance of a roo jumping in front of you. trust me you dont want to be driving your new car home and over look the importance of insurance just to have a roo jump out and damage it or write it off.
But sydney is nto that far really liek minux has said your not going across the desert so just get roadside assist and enjoy the drive. good luck.
i dunno if anyone suggested this bcuz i cbfd reading half the comments but if its a casette player
go to jb hi fi and get a cassette-ipod conecter
itds a cassette with a cord coming out of it and plugs into ur ipod i had a few but gave em all to my mates
they work great.
Faark bro that paint looks LEGIT AS!
I am actually going to copy it. Was going to go all black but the grey skirt is just too good to pass up.
Hope ya don't mind!
Hey Nathan.. this is kinda reminding me of an interstate internet blind date..so you never her seen her in person? only pics? check her out very well
ma friend..lol have you paid for it already?
WOW. You have committed to purchasing a vehicle without seeing it in person, let alone test driving it? I would not buy a car without having it inspected by the RAA (or similar in your state) especially given the age of the vehicle.
What are you going to do if it is a piece of shit and dies on you half way home?
The seller will be home rolling on the floor laughing with your cash and you will be frantically ringing someone to come tow you home.
thanks everyone - yeah ive got insurance sorted shouldnt be a hard drive.
and the cars actually at a dealer so its covered by warranty, otherwise I wouldnt be giving them any money til I got there
Ive just put a deposit on it not paid for it in full.
best I get some sleep now, 430am rise to get to the air port in time.
thanks for your help! cheers![]()
good news! made it back home perfect- no problems at all. picked up a 1 year mechanical warranty from the dealer for $250 as well
nation wide so if anything breaks it's covered.
only 2 issues i could find is the air con doesn't blow out of the centre vents and cruise didn't work
turns out the wires in the indicator stalk are broken. my ride thread coming as soon as I clean the 400kg of bugs off it lol.
