Only a Holden nut would be interested and there is plenty out there.

I think a better question is how to go about "marketing" then in hope of getting some of your money back for them.

was thinking of advertising both on here and egay. Just trying to see if it would even be worth my while. I think they are about $400 new. Prices have surely changed since i've been in QLD.

On a side note the plates them selves are worth nothing new or old as there owned by the QLD RTA.. It's the "right of ownership" and/or "right to display" you'll be selling. So you'll have to acquire and fill out the appropriate paper work and it may be a good call to inform the QLD RTA (via phone) that the plate are no longer in your possession and wish that a note be added to there data base, just in case there's some form of issue in the future

    Transfer of Ownership Form
    Cheers,

    Dave

Not alot... the numbers '025' have little to no significance to HRT which makes them pretty much worth replacement value only.

If they are personalised plates - UMMM WRONG on two counts!

IN QLD you own Personalised plates for life, even after death and NO monthly fee! When you don't have them attached to a registered car, you are legally allowed to hang them on the wall in your bar area if you like, as they can't be re-issued (like they do in NSW as an example). Secondly the RTA in QLD is the Residential Tenancy Authority!

Have a look at Personalised Plates Queensland | PPQ.COM.AU for more info!

That link, as you stated was CACHED!

The person selling them may have placed the ad many years ago, before you got the plate. They probably searched the PPQ site and saw they were available at the time and listed them for sale on spec, but never actually owned them!

It's very good way to do business - get a deposit from buyer, buy plates, then get rest of money on delivery to new owner! A lot of ebay sellers do it. They have accounts with distributors, sell stuff on ebay they don't own, get money from buyers, order item to be posted to buyer direct from distributor, pay distributor every month!

I rang the guy and he said that he bought the plates new off Queensland Transport about 2 years ago. Thats when i bought the plates off Queensland Transport as well! He couldnt get off the phone quick enough, dodgy i think.

They are exact same colour and make and i had them registered to a VZ Clubby in Brisbane for the last two and a half years. Only took them off a car about six months ago.

He's probably just a scammer. There HEAPS around. You'll see your car for sale on the net even tho its not actually for sale (or it was previously and someone kept the pics)

In answer to your question, the plates are worth about $0.30, the rough scrap value.

You bought them 2 years ago? and took them off the car 6 months ago.. yet you had them registered to a car for 2.5 years...? your maths does not add up lol

Sounds dodgy thought, can you ring Queensland transport and tell them..?

There worth what someone will pay for them. If your expecting anything more than what you payed for them, your delusional.

Stealthy, never expected getting back what i spent for them. I never said anything along those lines at all. A delusional person would say they are worth 30 cents.

Bandit, both timeframes i stated "about" beforehand. Can't be bothered doing the math, not really important either. Queensland Tranport will definately be getting a call from me tomorrow, shut today i believe?

I know you didn't, i was just making sure you weren't getting your hopes up for a high dollar amount because the scammer wanted 3k for them.

Likewise the guy in every unique cars from QLD trying to sell plates for stupidly high prices, yet they are always the same plates (and have been for years, if i was him i'd stop paying for the ad's)

Cheers for the advice guys, will most likely be hanging on to them for a while yet. I definately realise they are not worth $3000, let alone $300!
I will definately contact Queensland Transport and double check that i am still the registered owner of the plates

But are his the mega expensive custom plates where you can put any combination in?

For instance, I wanted QLD number plates to replace my NSW plates that were HSV-XXX.

That combination was not available in QLD but I could get a custom plate with the letter and number combination that said HSVXXX, without the dash, for over $2k.

    Thats what his might be.

    Yours is HRT-025.

His (according to the ad) are HRT025.

That would account for the high price that he is asking.

So that's the reason, the 0 is actually O, a letter. Perhaps you could offer your set to him and he will have a "pigeon pair" to offer and you could say that when they sell, he pays you for them then!

Unless there is a serious QLD Gov employee style blunder, There is not a Snow Flake's chance in hell the same letter and number combination will be issued twice! The DOT has nothing to do with it. The legal implication are horrendous if such a blunder has occurred.

I'm calling the 0 is actually a O that Steph is currently selling. He may have been misrepresenting what he is selling in hope that QLD'ers can't tell the difference in 0 from O ! (unless you guy cant recognise an O it is not 0)

I am correct! That is all!

Congratulations on making yourself look like a moron.

There are different types of plates, the ones with a dot are different to the ones without.

In SA the same digits can be issued on 2 different styles of plates. It is the same in QLD going by what MOR has said (and the prices are different for both). But, it is at the discretion of the employee who looks at it to consider if it will be allowed or not (ie, O and 0)
