Interesting thing happening up North, have a relative who monitors air quality including Carbon in the atmosphere. Guess what? Central Australia at the moment is sequencing more carbon in the new plant growth than anywhere on the planet, literally millions and millions of tonnes per hour as literally thousands of square kilometers become lush with growth. As a result it now has some of the cleanest air anywhere with carbon counts way below levels ever recorded in the world!!! It seems with all the rain that every patch of dirt now has prolific plant growth and the grasses continue to grow at a phenomenal rate.
A phone call to the Department of Climate Change reveal that they are not measuring this and have no intention of measuring the amount of Carbon being captured as we (Australia) didn't tick the box under the Kyoto Protocol which allowed for the sequestration of carbon in this way to be counted.... say what?
It has been estimated that the amount of Carbon being captured in just one day by the plants in Central Australia will completely off-set the carbon released during the whole Black Saturday Fires last year. That's just in one day and there are still months and months of growth to look forward to. If you haven't been to central Australia all I can say is go you'll never see it like this again!
OK I know when it all drys off eventually it will release that other great greenhouse gas, methane, but it will also deposit carbon across whole of the Australian inland. Bring on the rain and lets get those idiot climate scientist in Canberra out into the field and start talking up the good news when it happens!
