    Exclamation Brake Rattle

    Hello All

I changed my brake pads and rotors for the hpx/stotted rotor combo some time ago. Ever since then I have had a clatter noise come from the front when going over bumps.

I have just checked the calipers and it is tight as a drum to the hub, but there is a lot of play in the bit that holds the pads (back and forth. I chucked the wheel nuts on with the wheel off and there is still heaps of play.

Can anyone tell me where I have gone wrong?, I am assuming that I have done something wrong with the slide pins, can anyone tell me the procedure of removal and reinstall?

    Thanks in advance

I would take them to a brake specialist.
More then likely they will have worn slide pins or the caliper mounts they slide into.
They may be able to be resleeved but best bet is to talk to a specialist about it.

    Default rattle fix

Heres a quick fix, if you undid the slide pins on the calipers you have disturbed there original position. You can either loosen one pin and rotate it 90-180 deg, then retighten and check for play. Or seporate the caliper and grease the pins with wheel bearing grease, have to use high temp grease or it will melt and run out under brakeing temperatures. Clean the back of the pads, and where they touch the caliper and pistons, put a small amount of trim glue,[ that yellow colored stuff ]. It will dry and stop the pad shifting and rattleing on the mounts, it also comes away easily when you have to replace them. I have done this to all my cars over the years, learnt this trick when i worked for a brake specalist, long time ago.
