Hi Guys,
I'm looking at buying a 2001 VX Sedan with 233,000 k's on it.
I have a 1999 Ford Laser which they are going to trade for 4k, and the VX is 6500.
The VX is pretty well stock - the only issues I have noticed with it is that the steering wheel controls for the CD Player don't work, the steering wheel looks pretty ratty (what are these normally worth to replace?). It has all of its service history with the car.
What issues could I be potentially buying myself into? I thought it drove fairly nicely - plenty of power and the trans was nice and smooth. What are the common things on a VX to look out for?
Any advice appreciated!
Simon

My old man has had one since 2003, troubles with the indicator stalk (it melted :P) and the indicator/brake bulbs seem to go pretty often. Ignitions gotten a little shitty, sometimes it locks and you gotta wriggle the steering wheel to be able to turn the key.
They're all $10 fixes though (except the indicator stalk was $100) There was a problem with the electrics, a couple times it just died while driving along the highway - had to remove some fuses or something to get it to start again..
It does drive really nice though..
sell your laser for 5k and for the money your were looking at paying for the car you said you can get better cars with lower k's.

theres a couple for you as a bit of an idea

$6500 is a fair bit considering the k's. Also check engine mounts, A/C works, any oil leaks usually from the rocker covers...go to the auctions you could probley nearly get a VZ for those dollars.
Check out the steering rack for leaks , this is a common problem .Also have a look at the inside of the rear tyres for excessive wear some suffer from this more than others due to the camber angle .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
Hmm, I might give this one a miss.
There was abit of oil leaking from under the rocker covers and the paint was in need of a good polish - it felt almost powdery! There were also a few small spots of rust - near the tail lights and on the roof....so not sure if the car had been in an accident.
Thanks for your help guys, I thought it was a bargain as the last time I'd looked at VX's they were around the 13k mark!

Anything over 200,000km is abit high i reckon but depends how well its been looked after i reckon you could go a vy exec but its personal taste some ppl dont like the look of the vy i happen to be 1 of them maybe you should think about looking into a vt or vt sII calais supercharged or an ls1 if u can find 1 that isnt a slapper afterall if you do some spray painting of the back panel and some vx tail lights u could make it look like a vx anyway
Ended up screwing them down on price quite nicely so I bought it
Going through its service history - It was owned by a consultancy company for the first five years of its life and has only done 50,000 since then....Everything felt tight on it, no leaks (other than rocker covers) etc.
I'm after a set of wheels for it now...and some springs to drop it down slightly...then will be set
Thanks everyone for your help!
