    Question Lopsided sunroof

My factory fitted sunroof in the vx ss seems to sink down into the roof about half a cm on 1 side and sticks up about half a cm from the roof the other side wondering how is it adjusted , Nothing seems to be stuck in there to obstruct it from closing properly BUT 1 of my biggest problems with the sunroof is that when its slid right back into the roof when the car stops or when i go to close it again it gets jammed and goes thru a cycle of moving slightly forward and slightly back it does this in a loop constantly sometimes it sorts itself out and closes sometimes it needs to manually be pressed at the right times so it closes im guessing this is a problem with the sensor they have in them to detect obstructions it seems to think there is 1 there when there isnt so what could be done about that, Also i wanted to ask wheres the nearest sunroof specialist in the west and does a holden dealership be willing to fix these since it is a factory extra from holden or would they direct me to wabasto hollandia?
    Cheers

your sunroof wasnt factory, it was a dealer option.

quoted from a sunroof installer that had a 4 year contract with HSV and HBD,
GM have only fitted a genuine sunroof on their own assembly line for a short time from about 2003 to about mid 2005 apparently the process was slowing down the assembly line so they stopped. They did continue to fit them to Adventuras and Statesmans as they were assembled on a different line to Commodores .

yeh i got told mine was factory too when i bought my vt and then i found the warranty card for the sunroof and seen it was actually a dealer thing so i did some hunting and found out none were factory installed except for as above.

heres his whole post from another holden forum.

Hi every one I have just been browsing this thread about wind noise problems , as I own my own sunroof installation company East Coast Sunroofs Qld I thought I should shed some light on your various problems.
First and foremost GM have only fitted a genuine sunroof on their own assembly line for a short time from about 2003 to about mid 2005 apparently the process was slowing down the assembly line so they stopped. They did continue to fit them to Adventuras and Statesmans as they were assembled on a different line to Commodores .
Before and during and after this time most of the sunroofs fitted were by HBD or HSV , I know because I was their subcontractor here in Qld for 4 years. Now if you have a sunroof that was fitted by HBD it should have a HBD plate near the engine bay the code is SNR. If it is a HSV spec it won,t have a plate. As for warranty ALL I repeat ALL sunroofs that were fitted by HBD or HSV are covered by GM warranty through the dealership so don,t let them tell you otherwise .
The wind noise is a problem that seemed to rear its ugly head when the CV8Z Monaros were released , the problem only occured very rarely in Commodores or Monaros before the release of the CV8Z . We have repaired nearly 100 so far here in QLD , the seal problem is not a result of any thing HSV or HBD have done as they do not fit the seal to the glass its fitted in Europe. The problem is as far as I can tell as a result of an installation problem at HBD with the actual sunroof housing. As I said before the wind noise issue only occured rarely before this model . The Dealers were telling customers that their sunroof was "Factory" fitted not quite true as they were fitted by HBD-HSV after the car was built . A factory fitted roof is one that has a rolled edge finish where the paint goes down into the opening , some of the Webasto-Hollandia fitters around Australia can fit a very similar style but its quite expensive as it requires a full roof respray. Holden Adventura factory fitted roofs are known to rattle when open as it is again a fault at the factory the roof housing which is bolted in is too close to a cross member under the roof skin and the glass can hit it in some conditions . This again can be repaired through dealers under warranty [have done a few of these already] .

Some other issues are rattles in the mechanisms this is usually caused by suspension and wheel problems . Hey what you ask ? well let me explain take a look at some cars on the road HSV lower them fit stiff rate shocks and fit bloody huge wheels with no rubber . What do owners expect they have removed vurtually all the spring out of the cars so they transmit all road undulations and bumps through the body . Tyre pressure is also another cause , some owners are trying to get their cars to "handle" better by over inflating tyres , please don,t blame the sunroof for the rattles as its normally caused by these influences . Personal note here I have had the same style roof in my last two work vans both VW,s and I do a hell of a lot of kays 100thou + over many different roads and have not had a rattle in either one and remember these vans are commercial so they lack the high tech stuff you guys have under you. Now if you have a problem relating to your sunroof please feel free to email or call me for free advise , if your in QLD and have an issue with a roof first contact your dealer if it is a warranty issue they will then contact myself or whoever else or they may try to fix it themselves . Regards Howard Thrift
PS some Monaros develop some other rattles in the housing because HBD & HSV only fitted one support bracket each side to their roofs [we always fit two per side ] again another warranty claim to look at.

Well thankyou for the replies guys alot of information there kniever i never knew about suspension ect causing rattles my sunroof doesnt rattle its just mis-aligned and has some wind noise and wont close properly from slide position btw im from vic. It looks like getting holden to look at the sunroof wont do me any good since holden dealers will take any excuse to wash their hands of a problem or blame another company and promptly shuffle u out the door with an unresolved problem lol i know its not a big deal its just 1 of those little things thats annoying me that id like to get sorted out. Have to hunt down a sunroof specialist

My Sunroof doesn't sit flush on the left rear side. I opened it upwards and found from looking at it from inside the car, one of the support arm ends was broken. Hmm, now I need to find where to get the part to fix it.

Considering the warranty of the sunroof is through a third party, and all Holden will do is tell you to go and see them, for the very true fact that they wont be able to help you with it i dont see how that's washing their hands of you? They're not a secretary service for you to call a the company it's warranted with. The very fact that they outsource the installation of sunroofs means they dont have the means, nor the want to install or maintain them.
