    Default CB Radio

    Hey Guys,
Did a bit of a search but nothing much came up.
Im getting a CB radio off a mate tomorrow and wanting to put it in.
Just need to buy an aerial however. I dont want a huge chunka on my car, something small/easily taken on/off, and cheap.
I dont want huge range, just like 1k max or something, really not fussed.
    Any help would be good.
    Cheers

find out if its a UHF, HF, or 27Mhz CB. most are UHF, but it you get the wrong antenna, you'll get no signal. then basically search on ebay for a UHF car cb antenna,
    get one like this?:
NEW Pyramid 27" Magnetic Mount CB Antenna Car - eBay Antennas, CB Radio, Radios CB, Ham Shortwave, Electronics. (end time 09-Jun-10 09:04:30 AEST)

just make sure the antenna matches the frequency band of the radio, and make sure it has the same antenna plug as on the back of the radio, and try not to squash or bend the antenna cable too much when putting it in if you run it through your firewall.

Thnks heaps mate, so that aerial would work even though it's from
us? No region bounding or anything? Good idea to get off eBay us with our strong dollar atm.
I was reading that the aerial needs to be tuned and shit, I don't hav to do this do i? Is this just if u want huge range and stuff? Cheers

my mate just had one put in his ute.. His aerial is a little sticker on the passenger side of his front windscreen. Its clear and not noticeable. There is a little wire that then runs from this sticker to under the front pilon or whatever its called.. Size is probably about 20mm wide and about 200mm long. He says he can get up to about 5km out of it. Ask maybe auto electricains or whoever normally installs them, they may supply them or know more..

Seconded - I've been putting off installing my CB purely because of the aerial.

i spoke to him and he doesnt have the box or whatever it came out of any more. He thinks the brand may be Lazer, just noy 100% sure. Said he asked for it at an auto-electricians or whoever normally sells them, and cost him somewhere around $50..

let us know how you go...

Dont think it can be put under panels etc, aerials reflect off large surfaces vertically or something like that.
I have got the radio off a mate, its a Tait TM8110, from googling seems like a pretty basic model. Ive also seen that on the back of the unit it says 136-174mHz, can someone please enlighten me as to what this means, as I have found the aerial Sincy speaks of, however it says 430-520mHz, is this not compatable?
If would be awesome if anyone could shed some light on this for me.
    The aerial is here

and some specs on the radio here:

If you want range I suggest you avoid the on glass antennas. The signal loss through the capacitive coupling is substantial. What your better off doing is mounting a small antenna on the passenger side. You can use one of the guard bolts to hold the bracket in. It isn't hard to get a cable through the firewall on that side either on some Commodores. A common misconception is that a massive antenna means range but it isn't always necessarily the case.

Bah, what's wrong with you people??
Get the drill out and put it in the roof. First thing i did when i picked up my new hilux. Aerial cost around $40 and i can get 30klm plus range.
    That's a cb isn't it?

VHF's are mainly mine site radios, the most common are the UHF's. I have one in my work ute, it's a GME TX3220 5w. Good little radio with great range using this aerial Prestigecom.net.au GME AE4012k2 UHF CB Antenna - $77.00
