Hi guys,
Never brought an exhaust system for my car. I've got a 90 Toyota SW20 MR2 Non-Turbo. I'm not really looking at performance, just would like a different sound from the exhaust. So I don't look like an idiot at the shop, what should do I ask for? Is a Catback System sufficient? or will I need extractors etc aswell?

Since the MR2 is a rear engined car, the only real thing you can change to make it sound better is the muffler. Just ask for a sports muffler. You can do extractors if you want, they will give you better acceleration and a bit better highway economy.
The other question I had regarding fuel economy (am at work didn't get to post).
You save more fuel in this highest gear correct? so the quicker you manage to get into the 5th gear the better right?
Well.. since I now have a 4cyl car, I'm still changing gears at lower revs and my car struggles for abit until the revs pick up... does this use more fuel or the same as if I reved it higher and then changed gear? My mate was telling me that it might use more cause it'd be pouring more fuel through the injectors...?
The other fuel consumption question I have is - When I sit at the lights I generally don't use the brakes, I kinda just balance the clutch so I don't roll back... does this wear the clutch? or use more fuel than if I was just on the clutch? ... I think it would use slightly more fuel because the revs are higher than if you were just idling ye?

I wouldn't be too worried about fuel consumption, just drive it. Keep it in which ever gear that feels right for the conditions. It's a 4 cylinder, it will be reasonable on fuel unless you drive it really hard.
Don't ride the clutch to hold the car still, it will wear the clutch.
The rear muffler is the cat back exhaust. I don't do one, but you can get them. $600 seems a bit steep. I just found a US site selling stainless steel ones for $440 USD.
my 3" TRD system on my AW11 was less than 600 look around for a deal
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
No offense, but you might get a better response on a Toyota/MR2 forum?
That's cool. Got the information I was after.
Just wanted a rough guidance of what I'd pay for exhaust system.
Clutch balancing and fuel consumption were also answered. It's just that the MR2 wants atleast 2000-2500rpms before changing gear or it shudders until it reaches the wanted rpms. So I was just wondering out of curiousity if changing gears too early (shuddering) would use more fuel than rev'ing it to 2500rpms and then changing. I was just sitting on the freeway in peak hour traffic so I was just thinking. I sit in peak hour traffic for 1hr to work and 1hr home from work, so lots of unnecessary fuel wasted.

Get a hybrid if you're so worried about fuel.
Not to sound rude - but do you think I'd have the money to buy a Hybrid?
Reason I asked my questions is because I prefer not to throw away my money if it could easily be helped. I'm majoring in Accounting & Finance at uni - so ye maybe I am a little concerned about money because It is my future career.
Also, what's the point of posting an unhelpful statement? Even if I had the money for a Hybrid, I'd still ask the same question (if it was manual).. it's still throwing money away just a smaller amount.
