    Default Monaro vs Clubsport?

hey im looking to upgrade to the v8's, but im torn between a 02-05 monaro and a vz clubsport.
i would like to know other peoples views on the 2 cars and perhaps any differences in performance and handling that you may know of.
    cheers fellas

    Performance, there is no competition.

VZ Clubby is a LS2 with 297kw while the Monaros peaked at a 260kw LS1.

My mate owns a VZ Monaro and I got to drive a VZ Clubby the other day, acceleration in the VZ was brutal compared to the Monaro.

Though in saying 'brutal', you have to understand I drive a 85kw BMW, so both are really brutal to me... but the VZ just seemed brutal and relentless.

Price wise you can get a VZ Monaor about the same price as a VZ R8.

Interior wise the VZ monaro and VZ R8 interiors are basically identical about from badge details... and the back seat obviously.

With the R8, you get the bigger brakes also. The VZ monaro runs the same brakes as a non-R8 Clubsport.

Personally, I would go an R8, because if you get a Monaro you'd want to keep it fairly stock so it keeps it's value.

Around where I live, I see an equal amount of VZ Clubbies as I do Monaros, I think alot of the Monaros that where originally purchased as weekend toys are moving onto their 2nd owners who use them as a day to day car.

You can compare the cars side by side on redbook, along with any other models you want to see specs on:

    Good luck with it mate!

    Monaro's are not as common as R8 VZ's? For every 20 monaro's I see I still do not see a VZ R8.

OP, I would go the Monaro for one reason. Cost. HSV spare parts are a rip off. You can upgrade brakes etc easily enough.

I agree with Minux, HSV parts are a rip. I know a bloke who works for holden and when I posed the same question to him he said monaro. It's actually harder to track down HSV replacement parts than for a Monaro or so he told me.

Standard holdens all handle like shopping trolleys. Nothing good suspension will not fix

I know my senator handles much better than a stock VY SS. Evne after doing the suspension i went back to stock becuase it seemed much better matched for all around performance.

VY Clubby for the win. They go really hard! a 2003 model is best. 6spd Manual also.

Lets ignore the fact it seems you are advocating a car that doesn't exist for a minute. What I would like to know is on what grounds are you recommending a VY clubsport over a VZ Clubsport let alone a Monaro?

i rekn i might get an 02 devil yellow monaro. for the price its the best value, and like sum1 posted there arent too many 290kw vz r8's out on the roads so the 260kw's will b enuf power against most others on the road :P. plus it wouldnt b hard to upgrade the brakes and such at a later date

Yes, 260kw will be plenty against most others on the TRACK...

Get an 2003 atleast, then you have the upgraded interior atleast. 2002 interior looks really dated these days I think.

Sorry typo. That was meant to be a 6 not a 5. VZ's are just a "apprant" upgrade from a VY. Monaro's are good but i still think VY Clubby's go harder. The VZ IMO was a fail just like the VP.

The VZ HSV has a different engine lol... So hardly just like the VY.

At first I just thought HSV right away, mostly because...it's a HSV. But after reading all the comments I now can't really choose. >.< Think I would still lean towards to HSV though. Good luck choosing.

i would say the monaro and try get the vy/vz interior while the vz hsv may be faster everything else about it will be more expensive because its a hsv and ask around about what insurance is like for the 2 because i imagine the monaro would be cheaper and i like the look of them over a vz hsv anyway

The handling on the Monaro's are much better than the Holden/HSV sedans. The VZ gained power over earlier models by revision to the intake and exhaust, so if plant an OTR intake, exhaust and tune on either, you'll be pulling the same power. I wouldn't factor that into the equation.

Personally I prefer the looks of the Munro, and they'll hold value slightly better. Factor in handling and it's a clear winner to me.

    Holden HSV GTS MONARO 2003
best of both worlds game set match .

why decide between one or the other when you can have the hsv monaro !!
no brainer really but its a bit more expensive than a sv8 one.
