Alrighty, I would definitely suggest an LS1 which is in the 3rd generation commodores because with a bit of power through them, they are still tame but can unleash when you want them to. They have much better tuning capabilities as well, thus you can get decent fuel consumption on an engine that also runs a decent amount of power. Now it basically depends on how much power you want or how new you want the car to be. These gen3 V8's come in a range of models from a 1999 model VT series 2, right through to VZ commos that are made in 2005. You can pick up a VT LS1 executive for cheap... maybe 8k??? I think haha, so you would have shitloads of money to spend on making big power and make it look pretty. Otherwise a VZ LS1 executive could cost you like roughly say $17/18000 for a decent one. And then of course SS's are a bit more. HSV's hold their value better so you would pay more there too.

Yeah i am thinking hsv/ss just for the extra bits they come with...

I like the seats in the vt r8, but i want something with relatively low km's and somat that wont or shouldnt be going wrong on me for a while except of course general servicing costs

Its so hard trying to decide on the one for me, i want the right colour, manual and maybe mods already done ie extractors etc....

At the moment i a thinking a vy s1 r8 clubsport or maybe a vt 2 r8...I originally was trying to choose between the Monaro and the clubsport but i think the clubsports are the better choice.....

personally I would go with the VY Clubby, simply because the VT2 is the first model to have the LS1, it may have had some problems. By the time they brought out VY many of the original problems would have been ironed out. I think some of those first LS1's had oil pickup problems from memory...

yeh its either that or leaks haha, something to do with the oil. My point being I would steer clear of standard early models because of teething problems. Obviously a rebuilt engine will be a different story all together...

Welcome tot he holden club dude lol, we live in the glorious town of Bunno ourselves.

if you're looking to go to a car yard to buy one, my daughter and i stopped in at Holden last night to look at a completley different car there, and noticed some really REALLY nice Clubbys they have there. Even think the orangey/browney one was a manual too. Looked really nice.

I know alot of people don't think much of Ron Krikke, but we bought our HSV Senator from there. She is a 1999 VT LS1, and we have never had a problem with her.

the kms for the year were extremley low, the car was immaculate, all original aswell............unfortunately she is only an Auto, but they ahve some really nice cars there that they buy from over East and import here. He also sells them cheap enough too, and their after service i found to be fantastic.

Go have a look at the yards and you will absolutely drool.

i have been eyeing off a VY Clubby there myself, but my partner won't let me buy it, it's a gorgeous colour and in excellent condition too.
