Default Dark window tinting...your views please

    Hi there
I am about to get my windows tinted ...
My question is does the cops ever book people with dark window tint??????????
When did this law come in darkest legal tint???????
Does your car have dark tint ?? Have you ever had the cops say anything???

    Any comment more than welcome

    Thanks in advance

Yes, people often do get defected for it, but again many dont. I say do it at your own risk, knowing that you can get done for it, and if you do dont bitch about it.

yes the cops can book you for having tint to dark
laws been in for a while
my old car had 17% tint, which is to dark legally, got picked up on it once and argued so he made me take it to a mechanic to get the darkness checked, luckily it was just after christmas and the mechanic was shut and that was it, he couldn't prove it so no fine,
another time cops gave me a yellow sticker for been to low but said nothing about tint
thats it for 2 and a half years of owning that car with dark tint

I think its 35% but not sure,
Yea i had blue parkers, he didnt actually pull me over, i got home and was walking through the door and he pulled into the driveway, he probably wouldn't of said anything about the tint but me my brother and my mum were giving him hell!!
Theres only 2 people in bendigo (where i live) that actually do it, they have some sort of scanner thingy i think

NSW HWP officers have light meters that can test the darkness of tint. so its very easy for them to test it now.

oh yeah, i'm in vic so your laws on darkness may be different, and this was about 1.5 years ago so it wouldnt surprise me if all cops had light meters now

I have a car with dark tint, but the roadworthy guy passed it (just). I had a car 6 years ago that had dark tint and had to get rid of it, but it did have a few bubbles in it so you could see that it was a lot darker. If it's nicely tinted you can get away with it easier. Also it's much less noticeable on dark coloured cars, tint on white cars always looks darker.

Just another thing to consider is insurance, if the tint is illegal and the insurance say the tint contributed to the accident, say a wet night and you missed seeing some thing, your insurance could be worthless. May never happen but worth thinking about.

Good point drewie, i got darkest legal and yeah its pretty dark but i want it darker. I think everyone is like that, it's up to you to make the call, defects are a small problem compared to if you wipe out a rolls royce and your insurance is void because of visibility with daker than legal tint

If the cop wnats to book you for it he will. I got pulled into an rbt station in my Cressida last night on parramatta rd, cop standing either side of my car and I only wound down my drivers window. There is no chance the officer on the other side would have been able to see into my car (15% tint all round and it was hell dark) and neither of them said anything about it. Before sending me on my way, we had a chat about how good of a car Cressida's are haha
