I know this is a commodore forum but i figured that there would be plenty of fans out there of the old school cars aswell. I have here a set of multi stud 17 inch wheels that i have just taken off my VS Commodore, now the problem is i went to put them on the kingswood and they have the same stud pattern as the commodores but the wheel sits up against the upper control arm, i only tried to fit these onto the front wheels of the car. After a bit of research i have found out that you can buy these adapter plates to fit onto the discs that will allow you to fit the later model wheels that i have here. I have heard that these are illegal to run on cars but can't seem to find any decent wheels to fit on the car to make as sweet as what it should look like, has anyone got any suggestions or does anyone out there have any wheels 17inch + that will fit this car without attracting to much attention.
Another question i ask is if i buy these adapters off Ebay where i found them they ask me to tell them the OEM. I have no idea what they are actually asking for but if you check this link out hopefully someone out there will be able to let me know more about it Wheel Billet Adapter Plates - Torana to New Models - eBay Other, Wheels, Tyres, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. As i said in the first paragraph i have only tried to fit these wheels to the front of the car to my knowledge i don't see a problem with these wheels going on the rear end of the car, as it sits today, my main concern is the front as they scrub on the upper control arm, and just basically want to know is it worth buying these adapter plates or trying to find a nice set of wheels that will bolt straight on.
Any help will be great, thanks to all in advance.
Firstly the stud pattern is not the same - there is roughly 0.7mm difference in PCD which doesn't sound like much, but is enough to give the poor studs a real hard time and is quite dangerous.
And sadly a lot of those adapter/spacer plates aren't much better, I suspect they're illegal simply because its too hard to police the quality and ensure that twice the number of wheel nuts are properly torqued up.
You would be a lot better off finding a set of wheels to correctly suit the car.
I disagree about the stud pattern as i had the wheels sitting on the car this afternoon, with the wheel nuts on the car, i was told that the adapter plates were illegal and don't really want to attract to much attention to myself, i would rather leave it a sleeper but i want to be rid of the standard rims that i have on the carat the mo
Well, you'd be wrong then. The stud pattern is "slightly" different. HQ-WB is imperial and the PCD (pitch circle diameter) is 5x4.75" and Commodore is metric with a PCD of 5x120mm. The wheels will certainly bolt on, however, it can strain the studs a bit.
Anyway, i'd buy some wheels that suit that car, steer clear from anything bigger than 15" IMO![]()
Thanks Blown V6 hatch for claryfying that, i apologise to vK3800 for making him sound like an idiot, as i want to run bigger rims than 15 though is there anything i can do to make it safe to drive
Mate, it's simple, if they don't fit, they don't fit.....The offset is wrong and the stud pattern is wrong, buy the right wheels or stay with the current wheels.
P.S. You didn't make VK_3800 sound like an idiot at all, you made yourself sound like an idiot![]()
isnt there also a bit of a mismatch between the size of the hole in the centre of the wheels, whatever its called? i remember being told many years ago that the commodore wheel hole is slightly smaller than the kingy wheel hole. meaning u will just get a commodore rim on a kingy but it will be damn near impossible to get off
i thank you all for clarifying everything up for me and making sure i doing things right, i spent a lot of money on this car and don't really want to F**k things up by putting the wrong wheels on the car, thanks to all that helped
P.S Dirt drifter i wish they had dump trucks like that for me to drive at my work lol
That's correct, A Commodore spigot is slightly smaller than HQ-WB and,as you said, while they will go on OK they will put up a decent fight when removing. However, this is assuming factory Commodore wheels, most aftermarket wheels have a bigger spigot hole than the originals and would go on quiet fine (except for the stud situation, obviously).
Good decision mate. Mabye throw up a my ride thread in the Misc/Projects section.![]()
