    Default Rear Shock Absorber Tinging.

    Hey guys,

Both of my rear shock absorbers are making a tinging sound when im driving along, it happens when i go over even the smallest bump. I got underneath my car and found the problem, its the outside bell that protects the piston rod at the top of the shocker, its really loose and moves around alot. So, are both my shockers about to fall apart and do i need new ones or is there an easier and cheaper fix? If i get new bushes will that fix the problem?

    hope it makes sense.

    Thanks

replace them both mate, they arent overly expensive, no point trying to fix shocks. Look around and get some good quality new ones.

There arent many car shock absorbers on the market that are rebuildable items, some of the 4wd ones can be stripped and rebuilt. In the end by the time you stuff around trying any form of fix you could have taken them out and put new ones in, any fix will only be short term anyway so will cause more headaches and troubles than good.

Someone else might have another solution but shocks are so cheap its not worth trying to fix them. Matt

Having said all that pull the shock off and have a look, im not sure how the bell cover as you call it is fixed on at the top. Is it just loose and wobbling around?

I think you will find that the top cover part is welded onto the shaft. If you weld it back on the shaft it will probably only break again because the heat of welding it will make the shaft brittle.
You will probably find that you need to replace the front shocks also because new rear shocks will feel a lot stiffer than the front if you leave the old front shocks in.
