hay everyone, well long story short had a new bottle of oil for my car on the flore in the back and was on the way home and one of my mates in the back put his foot on it and the bottle split open and put about 3 liters of oil in my back drivers side foot well, iv cleaned most of it up but its still oily on the carpet and i want to no whats the best way to clean it to remove the rest as best as possible with out haveing to remove the hole interior to get the carpet out, iv tryed hot boiling water with soap and than sucking it out with a wet vack, what else is good to use ? i wasn't sure if degreaser would be alright or not?
cheers scott
I would not use degreaser as you will then have a problem getting rid of the smell. My wife had a can of coke explode in her car, she used a product that was like a powder that she rubbed in & left for a couple of hours & vacuumed off. I think that two applications worked. I cant remember the name of it but if you try a carpet retailer they may be of help.
orange power or a citrus cleaner usually works, if not use a squirty bottle with hot water, spray the stain and put baking soda on it, lifts the stain out after a few goes
take it to a detailer and have them do it, if they are only doing that one section it shouldnt cost to much.
But i think the power one seems the way to go, liquids will only smear it around, the power will absorb it, like when you throw sand ot sawdust on an oil spill on the garage floor
Plus if you use a citrus spray good luck getting the smell out of the carpet.
it hasn't actually stained the carpet its just left it with oil all in it so when u touch it its all slimy, and yer detailers will have a hard time getting it out, iv cleaned carpets for the last 5 years and i no how hard oil is to get out in small amounts let alone when there was 3 letters of it lol, yer the powder sounds like a good idea ill try that tomorrow. what types of powder will work best?
cheers scott
not sure but maybe a fine saw dust or something to soak it up, sprinkle it on leave it to absorb it for a day or so than then vaccum off, maybe repeat is necessary. Something dry would help get the slimy ness out. Thats if you cant find the specific powder stuff for the job.
use meguairs "Quick Out" spray can, worked for me to get new oil marks off and a big old oil stain from first owner, took it out first spray
