I would like to start this thread by advising that this is my first thread in this coommunity, I'am a complete car noob, therefore please excuse my ignorance.
I had a 1998 VT Executive which was totalled last week, therefore I'am in a need of a new car.
I had a look around at new cars but they are bvery expensive, and for about 20,00 all I get is a lame mazda3.
I wanted to spend about 10,000-12,000 and get a decent commodore with safetly features like traction control and more then usual air bags.
I'am currently looking at the SV6,as I said earlier, I don't know much about cars.
Could you experienced members please help me decide.
Well firstly, good luck getting an SV6 for 10-12K.
I'm not sure what cars have traction control but my VY ute doesnt.
You could get a VY sedan for that price, but not sure of the features.
Pretty sure VT/VX had traction control..
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
I would also want to know whether the SV6 comes with leather interiors.
Does it have to be a Commodore?
Can get a top of the range Vectra CDXi for that kind of money.
Features include full leather interior, dual zone climate control, 9 Speaker Stereo, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, traction control, heated seats, mirrors and power everything. I know what I'd be choosing.....
Just because there is ONE on car sales for that much, does not mean you will get one for that much. Look at the average price for a certain type of car you are looking at, and go from that. You will not find a SV6 for 12 or 13K unless it has some major issues with it. And if you want things like leather interior/trac control etc in a commodre then good luck finding one for 13k.
Yeah auctions would be a good place to look although I haven't had any experience with them. Where are you located?
I'am in Glen Iris
Yeah I was thinking of VE SV6's. VZ SV6 you would prob pick up for 12 or 13. Just had a look on carsales and most of the ones in that price range have pretty high kms (like 180,190,000) which is pretty high for a 4 or 5 yr old car. Personally Id rather find a nice VY with low kms for that money.
But there are a couple there with under 100ks.
kunalraiker I have a 2003 VY SS for sale if the price is right.
Could you please e-mail me the details with some pictures kunalraiker@yahoo.com
Email sent!
Here's a link to the for sale thread in here.
Fs: Vy ss
Would there be any other opinions
I read somewhere that the SV6 had a more refined engine then its predessors would that be right.
Every new model has a more refined engine then its predessors. Thats why its called a new model. They dont make a new model to be worse then the previous one
I know, all this is making it more difficult to decide.
Might sound stupid, but which model jumps out at you and appeals to your heart the most? Dont always lets statistics be a defining factor. When it comes down to it, anything from a VY onwards that you'd be looking at will have a pretty decent engine and you will find one with the features you want. So just go and have a look at a few in person and see what one you end up 'just having to have' After all, the best part about buying a nice car is looking at it and smiling to yourself that its yours.![]()
If you were relatively happy with your VT then you could go looking at anything from a VY II acclaim and up, to a VZ to a real dodgy and battered VE for your money. You can find the odd early VE under 15 now but dont get one just because its a VE. The VY and VZ are better in some ways and are better for a young person IMO. Acclaims have the extra safety gear standard.
dont forget to do a status check before even thinking about buying any car.

when my bro was looking for a vy ss there was a few where he thought wow thats looks nice and its cheap and they always turned out to be having money owed on them or previously written off...

I just ran my own VIN through that and everything came up as "unable to determine"
